I think the reaction to Gore was because there is a very rabid minority who refuse to accept that there is even a remote truth to global warming, and so they find this to be utterly crazy. |

I think most of the attacks from the Right are preemptory in intent.
The main reason for the attacks, beyond those fueled by the petrochemical industry, is that Gore is a wild, raging Centrist, and thus anathema to the far Right.
And Gore has successfully learned a remarkable command of the media during his sabbatical from office. The Right fears he will enter the race, and that he will beat them soundly. They fear him more than they do the present candidates, who themselves are mainly Centrists.

The fascist attacks on Al Gore receiving the Nobel Prize are really stupidly simplistic and seem to be basically limited to feebly trying to label him a hypocrite for warning of environmental dangers while having enough cash to afford either a limo or a jet ride. Nevertheless it seems like the majority of people worldwide possess a positive appreciation toward Al Gore. The New York Times recently ran some great pro-Gore letters that were reasoned and fair and a few token anti-Gore opinions that were laughably childish.

My take has for a long time been that the NeoCon Right isn't much concerned with the Left. Their strategy is destroy the Center. Moderation, like secular government, is something that runs completely counter to Dominionist objectives.
The Center is vulnerable, as some in the political middle are there because they like to avoid taking strong positions. Such people tend to either fold their tents, move to the Right, or move Left. If the Center will not hold, the Right moves the whole political spectrum and debate one huge step to the right.
So the NeoCons hit the Center with most of their venom, trying to paint it as extremist. It's a very Fascist strategy.

I like this clown a lot better than the other clowns, you know, G.W. Bush and the others.
You say there is no man made global warming. I say there were no weapons of mass destruction.
Even if both things were lies, the later lie, which doesn´t cause so much pain and death as the former.
