YO: Kristol: Craig Getting Idaho Prize 'Slick'
(FNC Photo Goes Right Here With Caption As Follows) William 'Billy' Kristol looks wistfully at Fox camera girl
U.S. Senator Larry Craig was inducted into the Idaho Hall of Fame this week to much chagrin in the media. However, not all were so disenchanted.
Conservative commentators Bill Kristol and Charles Krauthammer appeared on the program Fox News Sunday this morning and were eager give their support to the senator who was arrested in a men's room sex sting in the Minneapolis airport last June.
"I felt a warm glow thinking this man now has a permanant place in Idaho history for voting against a hate crime bill after the Minneapolis arrest," Kristol said through a pleased grin. "It's surely a prize given by hypocrites to another hypocrite.
Krauthammer perhaps felt Kristol was not giving the prize committee and prize winner enough praise.
"Look, let's not forget what the prize is about," he admonished Kristol, "Larry Craig joins the ranks of former GOP Congressman, Mark Foley, founder of the School for Young Male Pages in Congress as well as the Reverend Ted Haggard who has, I might add, with great difficulty, turned over a new leaf, and is now able to spend more quality time with his family after leading a fine evangelical mission in the great state of Colorado."
Juan Williams of National Public Radio(NPR)mounted a weak offense of the tribute and its most recent recipient before launching into a political analysis of what it might mean for a man who has long been rumored to enjoy sex in public restrooms for men. Then Kristol added more thoughts.
"Can I just say something about this 'wonderfully moving narrative' about Larry Craig, who Juan likes to compare to Don Juan," the long-time pundit injected. "I noticed that Senator Craig testified in front of the nation on television that he isn't gay and never has been gay. You know, there's something marvelous about taking the whole thing with a grain of salt."
