Finally, an honest man of the cloth. But he's being falsely accused!: VATICAN CITY (AP) -- A Vatican official suspended after being caught on hidden camera making advances to a young man said in an interview published Sunday that he is not gay and was only pretending to be gay as part of his work.
Monsignor Stenico doesn't even look gay.
Stenico was suspended by the Vatican after he was caught on tape making sexual advances at a young man.
In an interview with La Repubblica newspaper, Monsignor Tommaso Stenico said he frequented online gay chat rooms and met with gay men as part of his work as a psychoanalyst.
He said that he pretended to be gay in order to gather information about "those who damage the image of the Church with homosexual activity."
Vatican teaching holds that homosexual activity is a sin.
"It's all false; it was a trap. I was a victim of my own attempts to contribute to cleaning up the Church with my psychoanalyst work," La Repubblica quoted Stenico as saying. |

Don't real priests have to tell the truth at all times? So then how do we know he isn't just pretending to be a priest? He's not a detective. He wasn't "undercover." He's just another unsympathetic victim of a self-hating ideology.

I've been thinking about this some more, from other angles.
If I believed Monsignor Stenico's tale about getting accidentally caught in a queer-trap that he was baiting for others, I would have much less respect for him.
It says much about the nasty "moral" and political climate in the Vatican, that Stenico feels this story is his best bet. My only remaining respect for the man comes from the fact that I don't for a moment believe he's the particular type of back-stabber that he wants his superiors to think he is.

Surely, he would have told his superiors about this important work he was doing. That should clear this all up in a jiffy. He wouldn't be stupid enough to go around doing that sort of thing without everyone else knowing, would he?? |

Well, it's a step up from the "Wide stance!" excuse that gave us all such a laugh not too long ago.

He probably did tell his superiors. But since they were part of the innermost gay Vatican conspiracy, they set him up, doing a triple-cross on him. (The various levels of hierarchy in the Vatican alternate between straight and gay, this being part of an ancient system of checks and balances.) Now his only chance is if Opus Dei rescues him. Oh, yeah, they're gay, too.
