RICHARD ROBERTS ASKS ORU BOARD FOR A HALL PASS

...THE ACME PRESS
Published: October 17, 2007
Filed at 9:23 p.m. ET

TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Oral Roberts University President Richard Roberts asked for and was granted a hall pass Wednesday amid accusations of screwing people, over the decades, out of their hard earn cash with a scam that they would never burn in Hell for their sins.

The 58-year-old son of the evangelist who founded the school said he would continue in his role as chairman and chief executive of Oral Roberts Ministries, and said that his attorney, Elmer Gantry, Esq. of Gantry, Gantry & Gantry will conduct all future communication with the press

''I do hope this pass will last long enough for people to forget about this and I fully trust the members of the Board of Regents,'' Roberts said in a news release issued by the university. ''I prey and believe that in Elmer's chicanery, and when the Board feels that it is appropriate, I will get away with all this, just like my dad has for so long."

The board said Billy Joe Daugherty, the senior pastor of Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, will temporarily assume the president's duties with help from Oral Roberts, 89, who is chancellor of the 5,700-student university but has left day-to-day operations to his son and Robert's micro-managing wife, Lindsay, who is also a physical education teacher for male students at ORU.

An Oct. 2 lawsuit filed by three former ORU custodial personnel says they were wrongfully dismissed and accuses Roberts of shafting true believers with his television program. It also alleged that numerous male models made a trip to the Bahamas with one of Roberts' daughters on the ministry's Boeing 757 jetliner.

It also accuses Roberts of illegal involvement in a local political campaign to support a GOP mayoral candidate. Such action would jeopardize the university's nonprofit status to which Roberts countered that, "the separation of Church and State is in the Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution."

The janitors say they were forced out after spotting Mrs. Roberts entering a guest house with a under age male ORU student and forwarding this information to the ORU Security Force.

George Pearsons, the board's chairman, said he will get the pictures of Mrs. Roberts and the student, who's name is being withheld, when he meets Friday with the outside firm charged with investigating the allegations, Coulson Detective Service of Tulsa.

''Nothing is being swept under the rug, nothing is being hidden,'' Pearsons said late Wednesday. He also said, "ORU has no shredding machines on campus and that no one at ORU would ever think about withholding any documents from court authorities, whatsoever, so help us........GOD !?"

Richard Roberts refused further comment as he boarded his personal jet for an undisclosed location somewhere in the southern California desert near the Mexican border not far from the site where the Blackwater Security Corporation will break ground soon for a new military facility tasked with keeping an eye on immigrants pouring into the United States.
