This really bothers me. It's primarily a public health issue, rather than a religious one. Though some bone-headed religions do prohibit vaccination, that's a side-issue here, especially as some parents are actually lying about their faith to keep their kids unprotected.
BOSTON --Sabrina Rahim doesn't practice any particular faith, but she had no problem signing a letter declaring that because of her deeply held religious beliefs, her 4-year-old son should be exempt from the vaccinations required to enter preschool.

She is among a small but growing number of parents around the country who are claiming religious exemptions to avoid vaccinating their children when the real reason may be skepticism of the shots or concern they can cause other illnesses. Some of these parents say they are being forced to lie because of the way the vaccination laws are written in their states.

"It's misleading," Rahim admitted, but she said she fears that earlier vaccinations may be to blame for her son's autism. "I find it very troubling, but for my son's safety, I feel this is the only option we have."
Either way, for religious or other woo reasons, this is both parental abuse of children, and an act which can provide breeding grounds for diseases which may spread to others. It's in the public's best interest to allow no non-medical exemptions to medically recommended vaccinations.

It's incredible to think that people would treat their own children in such irresponsible and abusive manner. Didn't they have a similar autism scare in the UK a while ago, causing parents to avoid vaccinating their children, causing outbreaks of various diseases? Again, it's like people think baseless faith is grounds to do all sorts of crazy things.

The problem is there is a ton of disinformation on the web about a supposed link between autism and vaccinations. Parents who go seeking information on their own often end feeling informed on the matter, but actually up being misinformed instead. It's a shame, but it also shouldn't be tolerated. Kids who aren't vaccinated should not be allowed to attend public schools. Especially on the grounds of a "religious exception," which essentially means on "evidence-free emotional" grounds.

Somebody stop this planet......I want to get off.

There should be NO EXEMPTIONS....this is a public health issue.

Religious beliefs should never be allowed as an excuse to abuse minors in any situation. If a young child needs a blood transfusion then they should have to get it by law. Throw their parents in jail (forever if the kid dies) if they refuse to have them treated.......IMHO.

I would rather face a cold reality than delude myself with comforting fantasies.
