I think at Easter all public school children should have to drag a cross accross the school grounds to learn about christianity for diversity and tolerance training.

Only as long as the teachers are clad in the height of Roman fashion performing a bit of the ol Ultra Violence with whips. If you're going to do it, then let's go all way.

I think they should have their imaginary friends drag an imaginary cross across the school grounds to learn about Christianity.

Really? Reenacting crucifixions is the same as teaching about Christianity? In Roman times, lots of criminals were crucified. Christ wasn't all that special in that regard. Making children drag a cross will only teach them that crucifixions suck, which is already pretty well established.

No, what made Christ special was the resurrection part...and I think we'd all like to see a demonstration of that bit.

Great! Then on every February 12th, we can force churches to teach science, for diversity and tolerance training.

Though I would have to say that conservative christians should be for this, as it would guarantee the failure of the public school system and the students will have to go to private schools where creationism and fundamentalism can finally be taught to all of god's little children.

So go to church every day and leave us out of it. Or better yet, teach the 1000+ other religions, theres plenty of Christian info around and virtually none about other religions which isnt supplied by Christians.

Adults go to public schools?

Oh, and the British school's mistake is tying the cultural diversity thing in with Eid, a religious holiday. But middle-easterners don't dress as they do only on holidays, though. They could have kept it secular. And if they keep it secular here, there won't be a First Amendment conflict (which they don't have in Britain).

Similarly, I have absolutely no problem with a history teacher describing how the Romans crucified people, from a fact standpoint. It happened all the time, and was a secular practice. I've got a problem with it from a gross-out-the-students standpoint, but that's a different subject.

Better yet, teach the children about all the pagan holidays the christians "appropriated" and the reasons why. Then, for advanced learning, they can learn about how christianity was spread to the New World.
