This one looks doable; but for me, it's too over the top. Looks like a 'perfected' aero-body suit with chute attached.

Bah! Too complicated. I have it on excellent authority that if you want to fly, all you have to do is "throw yourself at the ground, and miss."
What could be simpler?

They seem to have perfected the arts of the flying lemur (which neither quite flies nor is quite a lemur), or colugo. Cool stunts, but someone's gonna get killed! Yikes, that's scary!
(I recall seeing a video here where someone strapped on a turbojet engine also.)

I've no doubt that these guys are for real, but a couple of bits of footage looked a little off to me. Does anyone else think that something is a little odd around the 30 second mark?
Of course, the video quality is average at best, so it's probably just me.
Also the fingernail dragging stuff around 1:50 looks like he's only around 1m or so from the wall, I would have thought that turbulence would make that sort of thing (even more ridiculously) dangerous, but I admit the perspective is tricky, and I hereby reserve the right to be flat out wrong.

John, I get the general impression that the videos imply a lot more horizontal flight than there really was. I don't know if that impression was deliberate, or simply came about naturally.

I would bet that there's actually two or three meters of clearance in all those shots, but at 100 MPH it may as well be "fingernail dragging" for all you're going to be able to correct a mistake. The camera angles make things look closer, too. |
