YO: Just THIS in from "Oceania Free News Press'---via CNN. Orwellingly Yurz, here.
Donald Kerr, principal deputy director of national intelligence, wants Americans to redefine privacy. (No, I think he wants government/business [= fascism] to redefine it for us.)
Privacy no longer can mean anonymity, says Donald Kerr, the principal deputy director of national intelligence. Instead, it should mean that government and businesses properly safeguard people's private communications and financial information. (That presupposes government and/or big business aren't or won't be corrupt.)
Kerr's comments come as Congress is taking a second look at the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
Lawmakers hastily changed the 1978 law last summer to allow the government to eavesdrop inside the United States without court permission, so long as one end of the conversation was reasonably believed to be located outside the U.S. (That means now they want to listen in on calls between Topeka and Sheboygan. Gee whiz, I'm sure they aren't or haven't been. The veracity of the last sentence and $3.75 will get you a nice hot cup of Starbuck's coffee with or without caffeine.)
(We need Gershwin to rewrite his song "Liza" and call it "FISA." Maybe that's a job for Harry Shearer.) OY!
Here's all of the stoy...er...story. http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/11/11/terrorist.surveillance.ap/index.html
