I'm sure many SFN folk would've heard of Rife machines, and treat them with the disdain which they deserve. However, that doesn't mean real scientists can't attempt to get it right:
From this weeks Physics News Update (American Institute of Physics):
Number 852 #2, January 3, 2008 by Phil Schewe
A new study is trying to establish the intrinsic vibration modes of capsids---the protein shells of virus particles that package its genetic material---with a view toward rupturing them and thereby killing the pathogenic virus. |
Of course, it's early days yet, but pretty cool stuff nonetheless.
For those that haven't heard of Rife machines and related therapies:
Wikipedia's entry on Royal Rife
Quackwatch article
This site used to sell a CD which would play the right sounds to cure your cancer. No need to read all of it, but scroll down to the text in red at the bottom of the page. It'd be hilarious if it didn't result in people dying unnecessarily.

Hmm, yes. Have you checked out this part of my signature?
Nothing new under the sun, eh, but perhaps this time it'll work?
Edit: the Wiki link doesn't work. All that comes up is a blank page.

Thanks for the fix, Dave! I am now enlightened. Modern revival of Rife's work Rife's work was revived in the 1980s. An interest in Rife himself was revived by author Barry Lynes, who wrote a book about Rife entitled The Cancer Cure That Worked! This led to such groups as the Bioelectromagnetics Society.
In the late 1980s, Life Energy Resources mass-produced the REM SuperPro Generator. Three of the company's top distributors, Pat Ballistrea, Michael Ricotta, and Brian Strandberg, claimed it was based on Rife's devices and cured many diseases, including cancer and AIDS. They served prison time for selling unapproved medical devices and drugs as a result of their trials in 1993, 1994, and 1995. According to the Buffalo News, Judge Arcara told Ricotta: "Your sales strategy targeted the most vulnerable people, including those suffering from terminal disease ... It is especially cruel because, in many instances, it proved false hope to people who had no hope."[21]
In Australia, the use of Rife's machine has been blamed for causing the deaths of cancer patients who could have been cured with conventional therapy.[4]
The Attorneys General of Wisconsin and Minnesota sued Shelvie Rettmann, a proponent of Rife's "frequency generator" for deceptive trade practices and consumer fraud. The Court found that Rettmann had violated the law and that, as a result of her actions, a cancer patient had ceased chemotherapy and died four months later.[22]
| Another vicious to the point of murder scam. Nothing new under the sun....
