I know, this was written way back in the 1850's but still, I think this should be interesting to see.
I won't post any of the actual details, because it's a long read, but I will post the intro. This is from a freethinkers site. He's just dug this up.
In 1855, the following booklet was published for presentation to children at Catholic churches in Ireland and England. As you'll see, it had the support and approval of the Catholic Church, which saw nothing wrong with what it said or how it was presented. For more information on the author, John W. I should say, this stuff is bad. Dante's Inferno looks like Monty Python compared to this.

Don't feel alone, I just finished the third book of the trilogy.
But it was old & evil shit when Furniss wrote it. All he did was jazz it up a bit.
From there Elisha went up to Bethel. While he was on his way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him. "Go up baldhead," they shouted, "go up baldhead!" Didn't I see this in "Jesus Camp". Maybe not, but I do recall Pastor Becky Fischer saying some pretty frightful things. Possibly to the desired effect, the sobbing, wailing, and gnashing of little teeth. |
