Well, it seems that the Mars rover Sprite, back in '04, made the unfortunate mistake of photographing a trick of light & shadow, and silliness is rapidly becoming the result.
Mystery image of 'life on Mars'

Is there life on Mars?

An image of a mysterious shape on the surface of Mars, taken by Nasa spacecraft Spirit, has reignited the debate about life on the Red Planet.
A magnified version of the picture, posted on the internet, appears to some to show what resembles a human form among a crop of rocks.

While some bloggers have dismissed the image as a trick of light, others say it is evidence of an alien presence.

The image is a recent Nasa posting of the Spirit's landing in 2004.

Thus far, mainly the alien visitors theroists have had nocturnal emissions over it, but I'm reading that the woo is expanding to the religious. Someone even went so far as to mention Bigfoot.

I dunno. A simple and obvious explanation is never considered by the woo and sometimes I wonder how some of these people ever manage read a magazine or even find their way to the supper table.

Occham, how dull thy blade.

If you further magnify the image to the point of pixel discrimination (8X), you see probable evidence of image manipulation. The dark areas are pure black instead of very dark grey, and the demarcation between the much lighter background and the apparent "figure" image is black pixel next to light pixel; there should be some degree of shading at the demarcation line!

Oddly enough, some of the "shadow" areas in other parts of the picture show the same lack of grey shading, as does the "figure" section of the picture. Why did they mess around with the "shadows"?

If the "magnified" image of the original NASA photo was Photoshopped or otherwise manipulated, it was an extremely clumsy job. I am yet an amateur at this work, and I could do far better with just my clumsy skills.

What do you think Mooner? You have had much more image manipulation experience than I, do you think the "sasquatch" (man, that's a stretch) was inserted or pixel manipulated in Corel Draw or even Paint?

Does anyone know where to find the original image from NASA?

Well it does look pretty close to the film of the loser in the gorilla outfit Sasquatch filmed by Patterson.
