Someone, I think in chat but maybe at a blog somewhere, mentioned the movie Primer sometime recently, and Netflix finally delivered it to my door today. I've just finished watching it, and I know I'm going to have to watch it at least once more 'cause I made the mistake of not giving the film my full attention.

It's quite an intricate time-machine tale. It is here-and-now science fiction, with normal people doing normal things (sometimes excruciatingly boring things), except they've got "the box" and so things aren't so normal any more. The flick may make you paranoid about people with portable MP3 players.

If you're looking for flashy effects or big-name stars, look elsewhere. This film was shot for $7,000. IMDB "goofs" claims that 80 minutes of film was shot, and then cut down to 78 minutes. The same last names appear many times in the credits. But it won two prizes at Sundance, anyway.

Best line:
Are you hungry? I haven't eaten since later on this afternoon.
I suck at reviews. I may have more to say after watching this movie again.

Lol. It was just a bit short is all, but it was still enough to pique my interest.

So, is this officially the "Reviews" folder and will the "Book" modifier be dropped? I was thinking of doing a movie review of sorts myself if I get the time.

I'm going to leave that up to Cune, whom I haven't discussed this with yet. But I note he didn't freak out over Bioshock.

It is an interesting movie. There are a few very interesing ideas, and there is suspense in the charachter's on-going discovery of how to take advantage of their invention.

I recommend the movie, but would like to offer some advice to potential viewers:

Don't drink alcohol while watching, and make sure that you can pay the movie the full attention it requires. While the movie starts out slow and simple, layers upon layers will insinuate itself toward the end and it will be easy to get lost unless you focus.

No, you're right. Perhaps we can have a more thorough discussion elsewhere, but for now, let's let this be a "media reviews" section, where people can talk about books, but also movies and even TV programs-- I know in other folders, people have brought up things they've seen on the History Channel, Discovery Channel, etc.
