I was just now reading PZ's comments about Dotty Denyse O'Leary's latest crazy antics. This woman goes beyond being just a pious liar -- she seems (to this layman) to be truly delusional, in a psychiatric sense.

David Raup.

Now O'Leary is claiming that David Raup, a distinguished paleontologist and evolutionary biologist, is a secret Creationist:
In his day, Raup was taking a big risk by even suggesting that Darwinism might not be true, so he wisely merely provides facts that dispute it — and then covers his tracks with a resounding promotion of Darwinism in areas of study that he does not actually address in his book in any detail.
Well, I guess if you can't find any real scientists who agree with you, making pretend that real ones are on your side is the next best thing.

Denyse O'Leary.

Poor Denyse. She should really stay on whatever might be her prescribed meds, even if she does think they make people feel like zombies.

She is, indeed, one weird cookie. After x years, she still thinks that natural selection is all there is to evolution. Even though no sane (or at least remotely knowledgable) person has thought so for the last however many years, she still uses this strawman quite frequently - especially when someone else questions "Darwinism".

She's a pretty prolific writer and I catch her screeds over at UD, now & again. She's always good for a laugh, but I've yet to make it to the end of any of her articles. A low disgust threshold, maybe?

O'Leary is to science writers as The Three Stooges are to drama.
