Seems that Dr. Andew Snelling preached a sermon in an Aussie church a while back and had some skeptics in attendence. They had fliers. And hung around for the sermon. And had to be dealt with! Firmly, and he's here to tell us all about it.
I vividly remember arriving at a church in Melbourne, Australia, one Sunday night several years ago to preach on the relevance of creation. As the congregation and I entered the church, we were greeted by vocal anti-creationist skeptics who were handing out flyers denouncing me as not being a real scientist.
Why? You see, I wasn't a true scientist because I believe the Bible and therefore teach that the earth is young and that its geology was shaped by the global Flood cataclysm.
When I stood to preach on “Creation and the Scoffers” (from 2 Peter 3), the skeptics were sitting in the pews right in front of me! Undeterred, I went straight into the sermon, pointing out how we can identify who the scoffers are that the apostle Peter prophesied would come in the last days. | Boy, that showed 'em, them good-fer-nothin' scoffers!
But there is why I do this only for the intellectual exercise and a few laughs; I know that I can't win and this article demonstrates why.

From the article:Even if I couldn't see any evidence, I would have to accept God's Word for it! Of course, God has left us with so much stunning evidence for the Flood all around us, but it can only be seen through the “biblical glasses” we acquire when we totally accept the authority of God's Word. And that is why - despite having a geology doctorate from a good school - the man is not a scientist. The fact that he doesn't seem to know what "uniformitarianism" means is a big clue, too.

Anyone who would say that we can't really know what happened in the geologic past because "geologists weren't there" is absolutely not a geologist, or any other kind of scientist for that matter.
Sheesh, and he calls others deluded fools. |

being a geologist, and having gone through an undergraduate geology program, I can't honestly see how somebody could still be a Young Earth Creationist and pass those classes, let alone attain a Ph.D in it.
It just boggles the mind |

Indeed, thats why there are so few creationists with degrees in geology. I read a history of the creationist movement which mentioned the problems they had getting their children to complete degrees in geology. They were usually convinced by the evidence and left the creationist movement. (the kids, that is)

| Young Earth Creationist Snelling did it just fine, in the normal fashion. He papers that estimated the published ages of geological samples in the billions of years. I doubt he was conning science professors then -- it's more likely he's conning fundy parishioners now.

Nah, it doesn't boggle the mind at all. Being a YECreationist means that they must ignore all -- virtually every bit -- of empirical evidence that doesn't support their rather ghastly, OT fairy tale. To do this, they must become Olympic calibre bullshitters of themselves as well as everyone else. If you do this enough, you'll soon believe it yourself. I have few doubts that Dr. Snelling believes.
And Snelling is really nothing out of the ordinary beyond holding a meaningless Doctorate.

Ah, that's similar what I've read in Ronald Numbers' book The Creationists. He gives several examples of people leaving the young-earth paradigm after they've had a chance to go out into the real world and see how things really are.
Glen Morton also has some stories about that.Originally posted by leoofno

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.
