Okay, PZ, this time not so chunky, and without a pistol:
PZ Myers

For some odd reason, Myers' ("Minny's"?) fedora looks bigger than Indy's.

Yeah, Myers' hat looks like it'd fall down around his ears.
Looks like the shoulders are about a half-inch wider in your version (on my screen - it's more pixels no matter what screen). Perhaps the whole thing got stretched, explaining the bigger hat. Yeah, it looks like you cropped a bunch off the right side, and then widened the image to close to original size (a hair smaller).
At any rate, Myers' head is again too small for those shoulders (and the hat), like in your last one of him.
Here's a tip: actually take a ruler and measure the width of Myers' head and shoulders in the original, and try to match that ratio in any pastes you make. Using made-up numbers as an example, if his head is an inch wide, and his shoulders are 2.5 inches, you get a head-to-shoulders ratio of 0.4. To paste his head on shoulders that are 300 pixels wide, his head should be 120 pixels wide (and, of course, the height should always be locked to width when resizing to maintain the aspect ratio). |

Thanks, Dave. I'll try that, and post the results in the original position.
There. Better now?

Mooner and Dave.....
There is also a contrast illusion present. Look at the apparent extension of the left brim of Myer's hat compared to Indy's. The dark shading of the underside of the hat brim blends without contrast into the left hair sideburn of Myers. At glance, this makes Myer's hat appear larger than Indy's (where there is a contrast line between hat brim and sideburn) The apparently larger brim tricks your mind into seeing a proportionately larger fedora than it really is!
However, the crown of Myers hat is definitely higher than Indy's, and thus the overall hat must be bigger, in proportion, than Myer's, so the size aspect ratio is slightly off. The more you look at it, the more it appears that the entire background (including body and hat) has been expanded slightly more than Myer's pinhead requires!
Indiana Jones has a bigger head than Minnesota Myers! Who wudda thot it?
But Mooner, the last couple of images have been so dark You're not.......?
Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Dylan Thomas
Somehow, I find myself pondering on these words more and more recently! |

Thanks, Bill. I think you have something with the illusion thing.
Ive also considered the matter, and I intend to go screaming, bitching, and whining into the night, the same way as I go into every day.

Mooner....
I touched up some of the hat and sideburns, and maybe Myers fills out the fedora and clothes a little better now! See what Dave thinks! The Minnesota Myers thing is a great concept!
Fuckin' around with images is more fun than fuckin' around with words!
