Humanism at its most contrived and cartoony. Does anyone else think this is both lame and creepy? Maybe I'm just too techno-unhip to get the appeal of virtual worlds. It just looks like a lot of escapism and bad graphics.

Graphics and animation: Icky New Age computer-generated hokum.

Music: Sibelius: Swan of Tuonela from the Lemminkäinen Suite, Op. 22, exquisite.

Diversity, independence, innovation and imagination are progressive concepts ultimately alien to the conservative mind.

Gosh, I thought I was in a patient mood when I clicked on to it. Guess not. I didn't last much beyond the first couple of minutes.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

"So what is Second life Humanism? A lot like humanism in the 'real world,' except...." (Longish pause.)

I fully expected them to continue with, "... it's neat and clean, with no humans!"

Marf.....

Again, we agree (for the second time). The computer graphics are childish and low-tech - why not just photograph the thing? - Sibelius is beautiful as always (Finlandia!), but The Swan is a just a touch soporific, and what the hell is the piece all about anyway? Kind of a travelog to born-again Humanism? (No apostasy intended, I just don't get the vaguely far-east, yet Italianate (Roma Garden) Shangri-la impression that the video creates!) Reminds me of a Shinto temple I once saw in Hokkiadõ. It was so Japanese kitschy, it made you laugh.

I guess this link might be helpful for those who aren't aware of what Second Life is.

Thanks, Humbert, that link makes a good deal of what was unintelligible, intelligible!
