A claim published by the Spud Report blames the faltering Ron Paul GOP presidential campaign for the leak of a photo of John McCain, which is now being widely distributed on the Internet. The photo shows McCain dressed as a 17th Century Ulster-Scots warrior.
The McCain camp was quick to fire back.
"This represents a desperate and deliberate attempt by Ron Paul and his minions to defame John McCain, and to associate him with past genocidal wars between Protestants and Catholics in Ireland," stated a McCain campaign spokesman.
The spokesman continued, "Let me make this clear: Like millions of Americans, Senator McCain is of Scots-Irish descent. He is justifiably proud of that heritage. At the time the photo was taken, John was on a goodwill visit to Northern Ireland for cultural reasons. During this visit, the Senator was asked to wear the traditional garb of his ancestors, and heft the battle-axe of a good Calvinist Ulsterman. He did so with pride. Let the record show that Senator McCain killed very few Papist bastards during his visit."
