While not exactly on-topic, I think you guys would be interested in this:

I'm sure most of you know all about Hero already. About the only thing he seems not to have invented is the Greek sandwich with the suspiciously similar name...

My favourite is the vending machine.

And mine are the devices used in churchs fo gull the faithful. The more things change, the more they stay the same, eh?

I knew about the Aeolipile -- doesn't everybody? -- but little of the rest of it. It was very interesting. Equally interesting is that Hero was from Alexandra. This was the city from whence the alchemical arts spread from Egypt into the Arab lands and ultimatly Greece and the rest of Europe.
