A Pulitzer Prize for Bob Dylan
A Special Citation to Bob Dylan for his profound impact on popular music and American culture, marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power. |
It should be noted that no other rock musician has ever won this prize. And considering the work he is doing these days, which may be some of his best, I think this award is richly deserved and way cool...

Kil.....
I'm not a great fan of rock, but you are totally on target here, Dylan is a national treasure! He richly deserves the Pulitzer! |

Seriously? Im sorry but pulizters should not be awarded for popularity(imagine this nightmare). Dylan was a great lyricist, however he is hardly the finest.
Edit: the answer to your question is...Chuck D, off the top of my head. |

| I don't think this was a popularity award and Dylan is still a great lyricist. Also, his influence can't be overstated.

Sure, I am in no way belittling Dylans influence or ability. I am only saying it's a slippery slope, When our kids are in charge could they deny this..."A Special Citation to Harry Potter for his profound impact on popular literature and American culture, marked by magical compositions of extraordinary poetic power."
Dylan has plenty of awards and recognition, this is only a publicity stunt for the Pulitzer group. |

Now you're getting it Kil, fight the power! Most of those are literary, I have no issues with those... It sure seems like they are pumping out now, what was previously a once every few years item. Those last four are pandering. I'm sorry but Bradbury is hardly unmatched by Phillip K. Dick who could be argued to be even more influential to Sci-Fi. |

Not to say anything negative about Phillip K. Dick (because you can't, really), but Bradbury's writing has the ability to influence the way you think. I read Fahrenheit 451 when I was a little kid (11 or 12 years old), and the story is still etched in my memory. It made me think about things I would never have considered at that age (or any other age, maybe). Very few books have had that sort of impact on me (1984, Brave New World, to name a couple).
I've read a lot of Phillip K. Dick's stories, and while they are superb fiction none of them rise to that level. The level where you put the book down and the world around you is, literally, a different place.

I disagree, PKD has virtually the same effect on me as Bradbury does on you. Oh well, nothing to get in a tiff over, they both rock. |
