Has anyone else been annpoyed by the new anti drug campaign that uses the concept of; "If you're buying drugs you're funding Terrorism."
Do people swallow this? Really, buying drugs funds terrorism? As opposed to buying, oh, I don't know, gasoline perhaps?

As I understand it they have a similar program in the Arab world. It's called Boycott American goods.

That is stupid! I am not buying drugs to fund terrrorism - I support the new Afghan regime that the west helped to establish. They really need those drug funds right now. I also help to stabilize the eastern european economy through wich the drugs are imported while I am at it.
If you want to make the world a safer place and fight terrorism, buy more drugs.

Oddly enough, I've yet to see it. Don't watch a whole lot of TV (although the three part special on PBS: 'The Shape of Life' was great. I ran the set hard for that one).
I dunno. If I'd seen it, I might've gotten a little ticked. It seemed pretty asinine, from what I've heard.
Or maybe I'd just ignore it.

That ad is a blantant hyperbole. Really only herion comes from Afghanistan, and most of that comes from China.
But my motto is, like with most goods, buy American.

It certainly could, Slater, if these drugs weren't illegal. If a person is 'free,' then they are 'free' to go to hell, in any way they choose. These drugs could be taxed like any other product, and that could pay for education, not scare tatics, and treatment centers for those who wanted to get clean. Instead, we handle a basicly medical problem, by handing the criminal element, a gold plated monopoly. Fill our leading growth industry, prisons, with otherwise, ordinary working, tax paying, citizens. Their crime, wanting to get high once in awhile, a practise as you know, people have insisted on doing for millennium. Then the Bushites suggest terrorism is their fault. Yeah, it upsets me very much.

You know, it's so damned hard to get a dealer to give you a profit and loss statement. They don't even have a Dunn and Bradstreet listing. Makes it hard to say where they spend they're revenue, although the over customized Camry with the absurd spoiler and seismic event class speaker system is probably a tip off.
Slater's point is valid though, cash spent on drugs goes upstream to organized crime and it's certainly possible and even likely that organizations we deem as terrorists are making some of their money that way.
On the other hand, it's certainly not the only way and I find it doubtful that it's a main source of funding. The commercial's tag line is:
"Where do terrorists get their money? If you buy drugs, they're getting it from you."
In fairness, the following commercials should be run as well.
-In light of the money and supplies the Gov gave Afganistan during the 80s- "If you pay taxes, they're getting it from you."
Since it's hard to find a gas station that claims to sell only domesticly derived fuels- - "If you drive a car, fly a plane, mow your lawn or heat your home..."
As a matter of fact, since terrorists and those who fund them can run businesses, invest in the market, get jobs, etc. We might as well make it, "If you spend money on any product whatsoever without fully researching the ownership of the company and/or vendor and/or retailer and/or shipping/storage facilites, plus their employees and major stockholders..."
You bastard consumers. Not me, I ain't funding terrorists. I'm gonna go live in Montana in a cabin in the woods, grow my own clothes and sow my own food. Just me, my dog, my woman and a whole bunch of handguns that I'll whittle out of alluminum from recycled cans. That'll show those bastards.
