Absolute classic movie. I first saw it when I was a little tacker and it spun me out.
Still watch it whenever it's on tele.

Which one do you watch? If it's about the animals, what's it about? If it's 'Day of the Triffids', it wasn't all that fantastic a movie, just ok. Even if Howard Keel is quite handsome.

'Day of the Animals' can't remember who's in it - but all the animals go crazy and start killing people. Came out sometime in the 70s I think. Guess that says something though - cause I thought humans were animals.

Is this the one with big giant rats? Not "Them" size but about large dog size. I seem to also remember it all takes place in a cabin in the woods.

How about "Night of the Lepus," which featured mutant bunnies grown to gargantuan proportions AND gone carnivorous? Obviously, that's one too many gimmees for good sci-fi, but the makers of this howler seemed to have taken themselves seriously, lacking the good sense to milk this one for the rich camp element of its ludicrous premiss.
Some film maker could have some fun with a remake, and break cinematic taboo in the process. It could be called "Revenge of the Lepus" and show the rabbits scarfing some bratty little urchins who had earlier treated them cruelly.

Now, THAT I'd pay to see. Always love to see any little kids get what they deserve.
Ok, here's another movie that was.... ah, 'interesting' but... I just finished watching 'Sphere' staring Dustin Hoffman, taped it the other night when it was on TV. Does anyone else see the affinity to another sci-fi movie of long ago, the classic 'Forbidden Planet' with a little of the 'Martian Chronicals' thrown in? Up until the very end when it got a tinny bit philosophical, all I could think of was how much the similarity of what they were imagining and what was real was so close to the afore mentioned movie. Now, want to bet, someone is going to say the book was better?

I have read the book and did watch bits of Sphere when it was on the other night. From what I saw, the book is better. Personally, I'd rather watch the whole thing from beginning to end before making a judgement about the whole thing.
Might have to search for it on http://www.netflix.com...

Well I'm back in the thread with two Japanese flicks worth seeing. Though hard to find! These could be placed in that tenuous category of: "Films you remember as being better than they actually are."
"H Man" This is a blob movie. It has its moments. First - (get this!) the blob is a clear liquid that hides in gutters and sewers. And it attacks in the rain! So you can't see it coming. After it absorbs the person, it briefly assumes the human shape, then melts into a puddle. really creepy, but there are totally goofy moments too. There are gangsters involved (I don't remember how) and there's a weird chase scene where they must be driving at 25 mph!!! (Not 125 - 25!) Maybe they're in a school crossing zone. Another creepy sequence involved the blob attacking a Japanese burlesque club. It melts several girls, all that's left is their string bikinis.
The Manster This one's very cool! A mad Japanese scientist injects a American reporter with a secret formula that does a Jekyll & Hyde number on him. The catch is that he doesn't switch back and forth from the nice guy to the bad guy -- oh no -- the evil "Hyde" side just starts to grow right out of his shoulder. The best scene is when he goes to the bathroom mirror, removes his shirt, and there's a bump on his shoulder....that turns out to be.......an eyelid! Then...IT OPENS! AHHHHHH!!!! He screams loud and long! (Are you totally freaked out yet!?) Another part that's very memorable is when he staggers into a Buddhist temple, and is wandering around while the monks intone their extremely LOW notes and strike gongs.
In yet another scene, the "Hyde" Head (which looks more like a slovenly Muppet on steroids, starts to grow right out of his shoulder, twisting and turning and fully formed. Near the end of the film, in the middle of a driving rain, with the police nearby...HE SPLITS IN TWO! --- AHHHHHH!!!! (This is before John Carpenter's remake of "The Thing" too!) Despite all these wild things, its got A LOT of corn stuff in it too. A devoted wife, a friend who wants to help (and likes the wife)...the mad scientist's sister, who has one eye about 4 inches lower than the other.
Fiend Without a Face Here's a premise: A (mad) scientist experiments with disembodied thought. Giving thought a sentient existence apart from the mind and body. (You follow this?) In order to do this, the scientist has to almost electrocute himself. The "invisible thoughts" he creates crave human brain fluid. (Of course.) If that isn't weird enough, later, while trapped in a house, they figure out that they can see these thought creatures with a "ray" and the creature are flying disembodied brains and spinal cords. Nifty eh?

Fiend Without a Face is the only one of those that I've ever heard of. On another note, I've seen, I think, about every Charlie Chan movie ever made. It must have had an influence on me as a child. I married a Chinaman. Funny, though he doesn't usualy come up with clever sayings.

Ah Snake,
Maybe you and your husband will both like some of the wise Cantonese sayings on this way cool Charlie Chan website:
http://www.charliechan.net/
Many are by the script writers too, but some are actual old expressions from Hong Kong and Canton. But that's another story.

My nomination is DIRTY DANCING, the ultimate bitch-flick. I had to put up with that garbage almost everyday during my early to middle teenage years thatnks to my evil older sister. Whatever happened to that bad actress who played PAtrick Swayze's tart?

I have a younger truly evil sister, I call her Queen Bitch. Maybe your sister and mine know each other, at least they are in the same club. I liked 'Dirty Dancing', maybe I didn't see it the same as you. I like dancing, so I guess I didn't pay attention to the plot as much. And Patrick Swayze is a good dancer. Don't remember the actresses name and don't know anything about her. (you can go to IMDB -that's the Keyword on AOL. And look up anything you want that has to do with movies) BTW, I thought she was kind of cute but too skinny.

The other day this movie was on TV. Not ever having heard of it or anything about it, just by the title I had to see what it was. 'Morons from OuterSpace'. It really does fit the subject of this folder. It's British. A comedy. Dumb but some sceens are so funny I couldn't stop laughing. Still don't know anything about it such as who the actors are or when it was made but I think it's really worth watching. The song at the end is nice too.
