Every so often something happens which makes us feel good, and here's one. A few years ago, York University here in Toronto was approached by the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College about setting up an affiliated program. Immediately some members of the science faculty sprang into action to defend academic integrity. After years of hard work, some frightening close calls, and the usual accusation that scientists were being 'close minded fools', the battle has been won. The university recently abandoned all plans for such a move.
I had nothing to do with this, but I can't help feeling elated that reason prevailed.

Good going for the people at York University!
Rat, any trouble with fundies in Canada trying to teach creationism in classrooms?...or is that mainly in the more southern latitudes, here in the states.
Here's a ditty about a pseudocitizen: http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/wales/newsid_1383000/1383473.stm
from the site...... "A lay preacher who claimed he did not need car insurance because God had given him divine protection from harm has been fined nearly £800." |

I don't think that there's been any official attempts by any level of government, but students are not given any decent instruction in the principles of evolutionary theory until the end of high school. Waaaaaaay too late, in the opinion of most of us. Plus, our esteemed leader of the opposition party at the federal level is one of those who basically believes that 'The Flintstones' was a documentary.
If you think that guy in Wales (the land of my ancestors) is whacky, check out this site. They actually issue their own plates!

Ah yes, the kingdom of heaven.
When I first heard of them I had a good laugh at them.

Um, yeah. They wanna teach creationism as science. They want to burn atheists like twigs. These people are very real. Fortunately, most fundies just can't agree on which part of the bibull they should use as doctrine. Hopefully, they will never get organized enough to pull this crap off!
He's YOUR god, they're YOUR rules, YOU burn in hell! |

Mark A. Ludwig is quite serious and he has a substantial following. It is a combination of libertarianism, long-time right wing concerns like "real money" (meaning gold and silver), and theocratic local autonomy (meaning the ability of local "bidnessmen" to exploit anyone or anything they like under the aegis of "divine authority"). This is popular among those fundies who are heavily involved in local real estate, insurance, or other small business as owners, personnel managers or accountants.

When I first visited their site they were planning to build an artifical island and set up a new country there.
Although they seem to have removed most of that stuff now and have become more ambitious, instead of making a new country they now want world domination.
I better get those nukes out from under the sink.
