No state has a "massive" public assistance program, unless you're talking about assisting Defense Dept. suppliers. They all have a meager public assistance program.

Back in Ireland we have the expression "Don't ask questions that you don't want to hear the answers to." If all you want is support for your decision then ask for it. Don't post a poll.
I asked, not wanting to hear an answer probably doesn't make much sense, whether I like the answer or not.
Is the child in constant need of medical care for some condition or are we talking the possibility of future illness?
Just a mild orthopedic deformity.

Would you believe that I didn't qualify for the CO Health Plan on unemployment? On unemployment I made too much.
Perhaps putting some money aside. Again I can only speak for the coasts but in both places a moderate cigarette habit costs in excess of $100 a month and Internet access is between $20 to $60. Skipping them, for your kid, for a few months should start a nest egg.
True. Any internet access I use is either through work, school, or a relatives. So, no I don't have that expense. True on the cigarettes. That's one of the reasons I've probably quit so many times - one day I'll quit and it'll be the last time I quit. Actually I was barely able to cover rent and utilities with my unemployment checks, with barely enough left over for gas in my car. I did need to get to interviews.
No. But what happened to the being left alone from the last sentence?
She's 12, during the day I didn't feel as bad about leaving her to her own devices while I slept. But leaving her absolutely alone overnight and for most of the day - no.
But you've made your decisions. Only you know all the details. So stick by them and trust yourself. You have no need for the acceptance of strangers.
True. The problem is I'm not always sure it is the right decision.
