Punk, was spiked/multi-colored hair. Slam dancing, almost a heavy metal sound, IIRC, British in origin.

Ok, now we're getting somewhere. A bit closer to understanding what it is. Now we need to know what IIRC means?
Thank you.

There's a big debate as to whether punk is American or British. The Sex Pistols started AFTER The Ramones went on tour in the UK. Malcolm McClaren (the manager of the Pistols) probably ripped off The Ramones.
The Pistols made a film "The Great Rock and Roll Swindle" which is pretty damn funny. It also has two videos shot by Sid Vicious after the Pistols broke up in San Fran. One of which was recreated in the film Sid and Nancy. Nancy Spungeon, who Sid stabbed to death not long before he OD'd himself is shown in the video "My Way". Gads, what a skank!!!
Punk doesn't have to be political. It just often is. Like the Exploited- very political brit thrash.
But the Dropkick Murphys are a Boston punk outfit that does VERY Irish punk tunes and drinking songs. Check out "The Gauntlet" video on www.epitaph.com ---
I'm off to see The Misfits (Glenn Danzig's old band) on Sept 2 in Denver.

And nothing really rocks, And nothing really rolls. And nothing's ever worth the cost.

I have no idea what you just said.
Geeses Krist, that's that whole reason I don't watch the evening news anymore. It's like listing to a different language and everything has to be translated. One needs a program to keep up, not worth it. Thanks

Weren't The Germs before either (in New York)?

I love how they'd totally trash smoking and smokers, then glorify cocaine use.

Are they any good without Glenn? I'm guessing his voice is irreplacible.

The Germs were early, but still broke after The Ramones.
I don't know why Snake doesn't understand me. I'm using english. Some of the band's have whole phrases for names (ie. A Perfect Circle) which makes for interesting sentences.
Sid and Nancy was a movie about Sid Vicious, the second Sex Pistols bassist, and his junkie girlfriend, Nancy Spungeon.
The Great Rock and Roll Swindle was one of three movies that Malcom MacClaren (the Pistols manager) tried to make starring the Sex Pistols (whose entire recording career equaled one record and about 18 months from start to self-destruction). Both of the unfinished films are mentioned in The Great Rock and Roll Swindle. One also starred Ronnie Biggs, the famous British train robber now living in Brazil. The other, "Who Killed Bambi" never got started. Swindle was the only one that got released.
Tokyo, The Misfits have gone thru about 4 singers. Nostalgia favors Glenn, but I saw them a few years ago and they still rocked. Jerry Only is really the backbone of the band. I like Danzig's solo stuff a while back, but the newer stuff isn't as solid.
TSOL came to Denver not too long ago, but I missed that show.

And nothing really rocks, And nothing really rolls. And nothing's ever worth the cost.

Where are the Misfits playing in Denver and why haven't I heard anything about it before this? Did I somehow completely miss this one. Hey, I missed Ozzfest on the 22nd too. I didn't hear about it until too late.

That's the whole point, they are individuly English words but put in sentences the way you do I don't know who or what you are talking about.
That's the same reason I don't think Jay Lenos' monologs are funny, I don't know who he's talking about when he mentions something about a 'famous' movie star. Or on the Network news, they say English words that don't make sense. An example I hear sometimes is 'watershed'. Watershed is vegitation that prevents floods, but when they are talking about some politician, who can figure out why they use that word?
I say I don't understand you because who ever your are talking about is not important.
Like politicians!

The Misfits are playing Sept 2 at the either the Fillmore or Ogden on Colfax Ave right up the street from the capital building. Both venues are about 4 blocks apart, so finding a crowd you can assume is there for a Misfits show shouldn't be too hard.
I missed the Warped Tour this year. I gave up on Ozfest. It's turning into a rap show more than a metal show. I'd love to see Black Label Society (Zakk Wylde's band)though. I'm a big fan of thiers.
Did you catch Slayer at the Fillmore on Aug 9? Ted Nugent was there the week before that. Tool is coming to Colorado Springs in Oct, so I may catch that show too.
Snake, whether they are important or not is subjective. I play bass and guitar and am very serious about music, so to me it's important. I'm much happier spending my money supporting my local music scene than supporting my local politician.

I missed Slayer. I worked that night. Penalty of working weekend graves I suppose.

I know where the Fillmore and Ogden are. They're about 20-30 minutes from home. Not that far, unless I stop at Amber's apartment, then they're within walking distance.

Too bad about Ozzfest. I think that's been happening with metal recently, I can't even listen to KBPI for long before something comes on that sounds remarkably like it belongs on another station is played.

I'm way out of the loop. How the hell did the singer from Drowning Pool bite it?

I haven't heard a thing about that. I'm apparently further out than you.

I've heard nothing on the radio, but I listen to tapes mostly. Local bands I know. Come down to the Springs sometime and check out Dirtnap. Or the Mansfields if you want a little more punk.
I think the drowning pool website has a small bit about it. He was found on the tour bus, which probably means it wasn't something they want to talk much about.

I don't get to the Springs much. I was going to try to make it for the Newdow speech, but didn't, I had to work tonight.

Oh and Quiet Riot is going to be at the Grizzly Rose on the 18th, $10 at the door. (58th and I-25).
