I hate to diss one of our most respected publications, but, IMO, the new Skeptic is not up to par. Of course, Randi's column was great, as usual, and the Jr. Skeptic was excellent this time around. There were also a few good book reviews.
Despite a few other interesting tidbits, however, I didn't get what I usually get out of the mag. There was no central theme to the articles, no words of wisdom from Shermer or many of the other usual contributors; the articles that did appear were indeed informative, but not as intriguing or thought-provoking as usual. Most striking was the complete (unless I missed it) lack of mention of SJG's death.
Here are some possible explanations: 1) I'm full of shit; the new Skeptic is great 2) this is just another example of summer silly-season doldrums or 3) they threw together this issue a bit more haphazardly than usual, becuase they are gathering all of their resources for a mega-bitchen ultra cool tribute to SJG next issue.
Any feedback?
