I couldn't resist sending Bart a few thoughts of my own...
quote: Dear Bart:
I hope you understand that the world is laughing at you right now.
Has it occurred to you that asking astronaut's, who you say are already lying, should have no problem swearing on a bible to continue the lie?
There is the rub. You are insulting them by asking for proof in that way. Essentially, by asking that they do such a silly thing, you are inferring that they have lied already. Hey, if someone came at me with a bible and asked me to swear on it, and it was not because I was being sworn in as a witness in a court trial, I would do my best to shove that bible right up his ass...
I'm sure you are getting lots of letters like this. Hope you enjoy them.

PS. I do hope you sue Mr. Aldrin. A court case will expose you for the whacko you really are. Not that most people are fuzzy on this point. It would be nice to make it official, if you see what I mean...

Y'know, maybe I should see Sibrel, and punch his lights out. Maybe even give a few kicks too!! What a jerk.

I put together a page about Mr. Sibrel and his antics. Here it is. I will keep updating it as news comes in.

I'd seen your update on your site Phil. Thanks. I really wonder where all this is going to lead. What I'd like to see? Sibrel's remaining supporters see him as that crank nutcase that he is. Or finally recognize a con man. I like the way Jay stated it over on your board; that sometimes bad publicity is better than no publicity, but this time Bart may have mis-calculated.

This time? ;-)
Actually trying to get publicity on September 9 isn't a brilliant calculation either.

Good point. He'd have done a little better on say, a Wednesday in the middle of Feburary. Slow news, and everyone in the media is tired of talking about what Brittney and Whitney are up to. So other than being a known idiot, can this be considered the "backfire" of the year? BTW, Megan is going to buy a copy of your book (she had borrowed mine). I'll bring her copy to the conference. She'd like for you to sign it (along with mine, ahem). How many beers is this going to cost me?

quote: Los Angeles County prosecutors declined to file a misdemeanor battery charge against the 72-year-old ex-astronaut, who said he was defending himself and his stepdaughter when he clocked 37-year-old Bart Winfield Sibrel outside a Beverly Hills hotel on Sept. 9.
I love the wording here. Clocked? Anyway, the DA didn't buy Sibrel's whine. Wonder what new grand conspiracy theory ole Bart will come up with to explain this?

Simple.
Interviewer; "Mr. Sibrel, people are claiming that this was a cheap publicity stunt on your part. What do you say to that?"
BS; "MY part?! It's obviously the other way around, because he never hit me. He's just trying to look like some kind of hero for taking on someone twice his size and half his age."
Interviewer; "So now you're saying that he didn't hit you?!"
BS; "Of course he didn't! Just take a look at the evidence. I'm a professional film maker, so I know what I'm talking about! Can you actually see contact between his fist and my jaw on the video?"
Interviewer; "Well, it was blocked by..."
BS; "That was the plan all along! And look at the shadows! They were purposely using lighting from many different angles so that it was impossible to see any shadows that would have shown what was really happening."
Interviewer; "So why were you checked out by a doctor?"
BS; "To prove that he never hit me. There were no marks on me at all, none whatsoever! This guy wears a couple of rings, and has bony knuckles, but there were no marks!!!"
Interviewer; "Well, there are other possible explanations for that. Do you have any other evidence?"
BS; "Certainly. If he really clocked me, as everyone is claiming, I should have seen stars. But there were no stars!"
Interviewer; 'How do you explain the fact that you initially claimed that he did hit you?"
BS; "This is all explained on my video that's going on sale soon. I've still got to line up some speaking engagements before it's released, but I promise you, there will be a real smoking gun on it!"
Interviewer; "Oooooooooookay..."

from Kil's posting:

So true, it's obvious that the guy is after publicity. (which we, of course, are helping to give, I guess.)
quote: Hey, if someone came at me with a bible and asked me to swear on it, and it was not because I was being sworn in as a witness in a court trial, I would do my best to shove that bible right up his ass...
The problem with that, is you'd wind up on charges, and Sibrel would get free sympathy as well as publicity. Besides, you might be placed in jail in the cell next to Hovind. If someone asks you to swear on a Bible, just do what I do. Say "OK: Jesus Christ, God F*&k it, Christ dammit son-of-a-bitch...."<after then being interrupted> I say: "Oh, that isn't what you meant by swearing? Sorry, but what do you expect when one lives with a language that has different meanings for the same words, inevitably you'll get some misunderstandings sometimes."
