Yesterday when I tried to play a CD in my car, it wouldnt work....but the radio did. I told my mom about this problem, and she said that it was probably Mercury Retrograde(dont know if that is how you spell it and Im to lazy to check it) So my question is: What is Mercury Retrograde and how does it affect us?

Um, as far as I know, the only kind of Mercury retrograde there is is when the planet Mercury retrogrades. Of course, I could be wrong on that.

AFA your car's CD player: Did you try playing a different CD? Maybe the one you tried to play was either not formatted right or it's too scratched up to play again. If there's a problem with your car's CD player, you should get a professional to look at it.

Mercury retrograde is an optical illusion, a trick of perspective. It won't have any measurable effect on earth-based electronics.

Unless, of course, if your car is a Mercury that is retro, and not up to grade.

Or you spilled some Pepsi in the CD player when you hit a bump.

Hi, Megan

Being one of those Pagan types, the apparent motion of Mercury "backing up" as is arcs behind the sun is what is meant by Mercury retrograde. This has been blamed on everything from stumbling over speech, to unexplained mechanical failures, to fits of "blonde" (forgetfullness or foolishness).

Basically, the apparent motion of Mercury is scientific fact as an optical illusion based on perspective. Things being blamed on it is catch-all bunk.

CD's can be quirky things. I would suggest looking at a CD cleaner or try a different CD.

But we don't know in what tone Megans mother said that. From what I'm getting and according to Valiants' explanation, she could have just as well said, It's Murphys' Law. Right? Thanks to all also, I didn't know what it was either, in that sense.

Someone did a computer study going back over a thousand years and found that when Mercury was in Retrograde, the illusion that it is moving in the opposite direction of other planets in the sky because of its distance from the sun, is 9/14 till 10/6 this season. Ben Franklin was a big believer that no important decisions should be made while Mercury was in Retrograde. An unusually high number of catostrophic events happened. During elections with bad outcomes they were linked to being in a period of mercury Regression.

Believe it if you want but it goes under the old wives tale file to me.

Hey Megan!

Since Mercury's retrograde motion is an optical illusion any affect would also be illusory.

So, how's that book?

Mercury in Retrograde, and astrology in general makes perfect sense.

Perfect sense so long as Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are gods, and the constellations are heros and monsters placed in the sky three to five miles over head by the king of the gods.

You only run into trouble if these "gods" aren't actual gods but are rocky and gaseous planets and the constellations are only stars hundreds and thousands of light years away from each other and us.
Mercury (Hermes) the messenger of the gods changing direction and heading towards Leo the Nemean lion that Heracles made into a cloak of invulnerablity could very well signal an important message to you from Jupiter (Zeus).
Mercury the barren rock of a planet getting in line with the 1.4 magnitude blue-white star Regulus has no bearing on your life at all.
