quote: Lunar Landing Skeptic Says 'Buzz' Aldrin Attacked Him Beverly Hills police said they are investigating a complaint that Apollo 11 astronaut Edwin E. "Buzz" Aldrin struck a man in the face Monday after the man asked Aldrin to swear on a Bible that he had been to the moon.
Detectives said they responded to a disturbance Monday at the Luxe Hotel on Rodeo Drive and took a report from Bart Sibrel, 37, who said he was battered by the 72-year-old astronaut. Aldrin, who took part in the 1969 lunar mission, was gone when police arrived about 4:30 p.m. and was not interviewed, said Beverly Hills Police Lt. Joe Lombardi.
Sibrel said he does not believe Aldrin or anyone else has ever walked on the moon.
I'm not laughting. Nope, not me. Armstrong has already had to get a restraining order against Sibrel. Looks like its Aldrin's turn. If everyone involved in the Apollo launches has to do this, I forsee some judges with writer's cramp.

Gosh, "battered by the 72-year-old astronaut," (that sure is a cute picture, Lisa), guess they really did, (a little distracting thou, if pleasantly so), have "the Right Stuff." (Ya got any plans for this weekend?)

Nubi, I don't look like my avatar. Here's moi: http://www.seelie.net/jref/album/jpg_lisa.htm Now that we have that little mis-understanding cleared up, on to our friend Buzz. Last newsaccount I heard, Sibrel is planning an assault charge. The folks over at JREF are falling over themselves to donate to a legal defense fund. Phil has written to Buzz with a letter of support, as have many others (including me). Johnno (for those of you who know him) pointed out that publicity, even bad publicity, is what Sibrel is after. Too bad, the kid is probably right. I'd love to see this actually get to court and Sibrel shown up for an ass. However, like the Kaysing v Lovell, I think it will be thrown out.

Well, what did Sibrel expect from a 72 year old Marine. Yeesh!

Include me on that list of folks who wrote Dr. Aldrin a letter of support.

Thanks Valiant. I really don't know what good sending letters of support will do. I just felt I had to do it. I guess if someone was about to drag my ass into court for committing self-defense, the support would at least hearten me.
(a snotty aside that occured to me, and is totally inappropriate: Next time the Bartmeister feels like picking on someone who disagrees with him, maybe he should look me up. I'm a lot shorter and weigh less than Mr. Aldrin, so that should even the odds a little)

And it just occurred to me that you being a woman, you could probably get away with kicking him in the balls. I like this idea!

I'll be on TechTV tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time laying Sibrel's "theories" on the line. They interviewed him about the incident, and called me after to have someone talk about his ideas. I was happy to accept. The show is "Tech Live".

Howzabout this direct quote from Sibrel, taken from MSNBC;
Sibrel told Reuters, “I approached him and asked him again to swear on a Bible that he went to the moon, and told him he was a thief for taking money to give an interview for something he didn't do.”
Shoulda hit him harder Buzz, shoulda hit him harder...

Lisa, Dr. Aldrin showed restraint by only punching him once. I felt he would like some support for his having to defend himself.
But as for Sibrel doing that to you, if your temper is anything like mine, it would be a bad idea. Beating someone until they stop moving is a bad idea. Even though Sibrel would have a 60 pound and 7 inch advantage on me, the battle goes to the quick and balanced.
Some interesting thoughts
Never punch a man who's down, kick him. It's easier.

I've always liked: Never kick someone when they're down. Kick them when they're not looking.
I wonder if anyone has pointed out to Bart what an ass he's making of himself? If I was Bart's height, weight, and age, and I got my clock cleaned by a somewhat diminutive 72 year old man, I think I'd destroy that videotape. And I sure as hell wouldn't take the story to the media. "Hello ABC news? Could you connect me to the department that writes stories about incredible wussies?"

I'm about the same age, height and weight as Sibrel (ack) and if I got decked by a guy twice my age and half my size, I'd want to forget it as soon as possible, and would burn that video lol. I think Sibrel got the reaction he was looking for, sad to say... He's a nut.
I've seen the video too, and the most damning thing in my opinion is that Sibrel KEEPS after Aldrin even after he slugs him. A guy(hotel security?) trys to block Sibrel as he trys to follow after Aldrin. And he turns around and trys to get the camera crew to follow him. If that's not harrasing behavior I don't know what is...
