This shows how religious people, I believe, delude themselves into believing the "supernatural" power of god.

quote:
The only power that we need to handle the pressures of life is found in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The same power that God used to bring Jesus back to life after being in the grave for three days is available to help us overcome the challenges in our daily life. That's power!

from: http://www.briomag.com/briomagazine/spiritualhealth/A0003270.html

The evidence of this being a delusion can be found here: http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0083/0083_01.asp
Why a CHICK tract to show this? Easy. Just scroll on down to the panel where it shows the devil shaking hands with the guy in the person's heart. (no comment). Anyway, read what those panels say
quote:
We must bury the old man (the flesh) daily! Surrender all to Christ (sometimes 5 or 6 times a day)

Think! If prayer really worked, don't you think that it would be more "definite" than that? It's not even like getting treated for a disease, since eventually, IF THE TREATMENT WORKS, the disease will go away, or is at least kept at bay(with actual test data to back it up!-->more later). With prayer, you've NO way of knowing what works UNTIL you DIE! This seems like nothing more like a "self-help" mantra that you repeat to yourself to convince you of something else that's working, when in reality, it's YOU doing all the work. If christ was so much stronger than "he that is withing the world" then why does he keep having to come back? I see nothing here that can't be explained by the will power of the person involved.

I like the escape clause they have later on down: "if we do what is pleasing in his sight" We all know that ANY little thing breaks god's law, so even if NO-ONE's prayers ever got "answered" then it STILL wouldn't be evidence of no god, but rather the fault of the person praying. When something DOES happen, they can then say that "god answered my prayers", and if nothing does the rest of the time, "I've done something wrong in the sight of god". Prayer is therefore untestable.

There's more:
quote:
The best way to apply this power is through prayer. When you or someone you care about is facing tough times, ask God for His strength and wisdom to face the situation. Put your energy and effort in prayerfully seeking God's help and answers. Also make sure you are getting a steady diet of answers from God's Word. The Bible is God's handbook for living, and it contains supernatural guidance that only God can give.

We know that doesn't work because of this, from: http://www.thecharlotteworld.com/30%20mins%20with/john%20paulk/johnpaulk.html

Christ is supposed to "cure" homosexuality, but instead they're forced to dodge the issure by saying, again, that it's an "ongoing" process. Of course, that's what makes this indistinguishable from a non-supernatural process. People try to overcome all sorts of things on an ongoing process, without gods. Why then, when the religious do the exact same thing, should we believe that they're any different?

Looks like John Paulk is NOT a xtian after all...from http://www.raptureready.com/rap23.html here's this quote:

quote:
Now this does NOT mean that God doesn't love the homosexual...He does, and He wants them to REPENT (turn away) from that which is NOT pleasing in His sight. Can a homosexual be saved? Yes, emphatically yes....IF they will repent (turn away) from that which is wrong. It isn't the sinner that is hated, it is what they do (the sin). Is there such a thing as a Christian Homosexual? No. You can either be a Christian, or you can be a homosexual.

Maybe the religious right group focus on the family should get another spokesman. If they consider this Polk guy to be one of the best examples of christ curing homesexulity, then it's clear from his own admission, and the statement from the "Rapture Ready" site that christ can't cure homosexuality...(even the BEST case has failed, and you CAN'T be both at the same time) If you still have urges, you STILL are one!
