Of course we understand irony. We elected George W. Bush, didn't we? |

*LOL* Espritch & Slater
Use a freebie called "PopUp Killer," that me likes, cuz ya can activate or turn it off, with a single click on it's icon that sits in yer task bar. "Ad Aware" is of course, a must have. |

I don't know how many of you use MSN at all, but they've very recently implemented the most annoying pop up ads. They come up automatically every time you sign in they aren't even selling anything of use. Is there such a thing as a pop-up that does sell things of use? |

.....no.
A friend of mine who is a buisness major said they were discussing the effectiveness of the pop-ups in one of his classes. I being the big hater of pop-up ads didn't really have anything nice to say.
He was quick to point out that he shared my sentiments but he explained to me the statistics behind them. They display X number of pop-ups, which over the course of time reaches thousands ( or millions who knows) of people. Even if 99% of people don't click on them, and 50% of the 1% that do, don't buy the product, your still left with .5%. Which when related to millions of ads is a healthy number of sales. It's the crude, brute force approach to advertising. (Not to mention a major pain in the butt.)
I don't want to bash all sites that have pop-ups though. They have to pay the electric bill just like everyone else. That said, everyone should give a big SFN "you da man" to @tomic who is offering this awsome board ad free. Fight the Power! |

My dad says the MSN messenger is bad because it opens a gate for hackers to get into my computer. does anyone know if there is any truth to this? |

No, it's no more of a security risk than any other program that allows file transfers. As long as you don't accept files or click on links that anyone you don't know (and probably even those you do) sends you through the service, you will be fine. |
