These scams have been around for a few years now. I like the one where an African Prince asks you to send money to free his people. I get them once or twice a month. |

In addition to the many Nigerian princes, I have also gotten one from a woman who left her husband and became a nun. She said she picked my email address because it sounded trustworthy and the almighty had said so. A couple of elderly people in the Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan (Canada) got scamed of about $130,000 CDN through one of these scams.
I get about fifteen emails a week of this rubbish. |

These all fall under the heading of Nigerian Scams or 4-1-9 scams.
Snopes.com has quite a bit on these. I was surprised at how long this type of scam has been around.

After seeing an episode of "King of the Hill" the other day, with just such a topic, my favourite scam is officially all of those cheesy "Diploma-by-mail" scams. Those things are the most incredible rip off and most are not even considered valid degrees. |

I get similar ones at least twice a week. I have only heard of one person so far that fell for it. It was a blirb on a news show. |

If it sounds too good to be true, it ain't true!
I especally liked the way the letter was worded. It read like it was composed by someone well educated but for whom English was a second language. Clever touch.
I never have to deal with spam (I wonder if I'm missing something). I have 2 E boxes. One, anyone can send nonsense to, and the other, only folks I give it to can send mail. I never bother to open the first one.
