For those of you that have lost interest in TV and life since Politically Incorrect was cancelled, Bill Maher's back with a new book, and a stand up act. If your a PI junky, here's an interview from yesterday with Terry Gross on NPR's Fresh Air.

"We got an issue in America. Too many good docs are gettin' out of business. Too many OB/GYNs aren't able to practice their -- their love with women all across this country." Dubya in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, 9/6/2004

Thanks for the link to that. I thought it was pretty good. I enjoyed the opionions he had on the subject of "US vs them" and how religeon is playing a major role in world state to state conflict.

He talked briefly about how airport security should preform more "profiling" searches. While I believe I understtand why he believes this, I don't know if I could fully support it. Our society has an underlying aspect of racism associated with it. Which in some cases could lead to a sort of McCarthyism in airport security checking. They fit a profile, so therefore they must be guilty. I know this is a slippery slope argument as to why it may not work, but I think inherantly it just seems wrong.

Maybe that is the political correctness in me saying that but I would like to know what others think about it.

I think that if you enemies are members of a certain group not to look in that group because they are of a certain race, whom you don't want to offend,is suicidal.
If the IRA is going to blow you up don't waste your time investigating Africans because you don't want it to seem like you are profileing Irish. If it annoys the innocent Irish it is the IRA they should complain to. You never bothered anybody until you were threatened by them.

The problem is that al Qaeda includes white boys in its ranks, too. While I can see paying a bit more attention to the profile than, say, a 90 year old grandmother from Wisconsin if you pour all your attention to profiling John Walker Lindh walks right onto the airplane without a second glance. I think they already do profiling but almost every celebrity seems to be selected for extra attention. The rules definately need changing but not too much in the other direction.

Penny Patterson, who is blonde/blue eyed and weighs about 110 soaking wet told me that while trying to board a plane she was pulled off for interrogation because her ID said that she headed The Gorilla Foundation. The guards at the airport couldn't spell.

That's pretty sad. But was this before or after these jobs were federalized? Either way it's sad but obviously you are going to have problems if you hire complete idiots. Did she ask him if he'd like to move to Hawaii and be Koko's roommate?

Thanks for the warning. That man is a jerk ass. I'll be sure to stay out of book stores and nightclubs for the next several months.
Let's 'pray' that he doesn't get back on TV.

This is a test. Sorry...

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?
