MSN touts their wonderful popup ad blocker for MSN 8 yet if you visit the MSN site every page you visit gives you a popup ad. What's even funnier is that they use this ad blocking tool to go against AOL but AOL is no longer going to allow popup ads. So Microsoft will still have them and will then be the world's biggest producer of popups menaing the biggest use for the MSN ad blocker becomes blocking MSN's own ads. I am still scratching my head over this one. Did Microsoft run out of smart people to promote or something?

Just to be totally sure, you may want to run a program like AdAware or something, as there have been reports of spyware that will pop up ads on pages that don't have popups themselves.

Popup ads are annoying enough, but I think the ones you that put up scroll bars should be illegal. Seriously, what a pain in the rear.
It would help if these companies are being made aware that someone will now NOT buy their product because they have an annoying popup ad. Yeah, I'm dreaming. |

Download a small program called POW...(its under one of the headings..a bit hard to find..but its there)
Then when pop ups hits your screen...you just add it to the POW program..next time it pops up..it closes itself automatically...
All POW does is just close open windows..
Be careful not to add any windows you want to remain open as its a sh*t to find them again...to take them off the list
So advertisers can name their pop ups whatever they like...it makes no difference...
They open and close that quick you hardly notice..
Excellent program...totally safe...and totally free...

If it wasn't for POW, most of us would have fled from PalTalk long ago out of fear and frustration.

| Pop-up ads should be illegal. Even in the most unused, distant, unknown websites you get pop-ups. The worst part about them is when you close one and two more open up. It's a vicious and neverending cycle. |

Once when I was trying to fix Kris Huber's computer(which doesn't have adaware) I was on a Czech website, clicked on a link, and, over 50 popup ads came flashing at the screen. That's what happens on someplaces. It is so infuriating, it is just easier and quicker to restart the computer.
Don't these people know that absolutely no one acctually reads these adds, and if they do, you won't buy from it?

| Even though very few people buy from the ads, I think the current pay system is per viewing. Some web sites abviously abuse this. |

Yeah, you can get a tiny stream of income from impressions but you need 10's or 100's of thousands of impressions to get not that much money. So you end up pissing off a remendous number of people for nearly nothing.
Oh, and I can't really disable popups. All my web applications use popups in some way. Never ads but there is almost always a place for popups on a website.

Have you all seen the new pop-ups? The ones that aren't even part of your bowser! It's ridiculous. The ad will basically minimize whatever window you are working on, be it game, word processor, anything. Kick you back to the desktop and display an ad. The ad no less looks to many computer illiterate people like an important notice.
If you use DSL, or any broadband for that matter, use a firewall.

The worst ads I've seen were at www.gamespy.com,
one kind was a green lizard that crawled across the screen, freezing all the programs until the lizard made a trek across the screen, then and add popped up with a ridiculously small x to close it.
THe other kins are actually movie and videogame trailers that appear in the ad, forcing you to restart your computer if you want to watch any streaming video.
These are far worse than pop ups for me |

Aargh!
I went to the website, read the interesting article, and when I went to close the window, what do you think happened?
A window popped up saying:
"Subscribe to PC World!"
They advertise using popup adds, on a website that tells you how to get ride of them!
Now that's irony! |

Hmm, I didn't see the popups when I went to that site.
Also the video game trailers I believe you are talking at gamespy have about never messed with my browser's ability to watch streaming video.
Your problems could possibly be from something else.
