I too got nailed by the religion question, I also tubed the population one (I am terrible with numbers). But the identifications were downright cheezy. You're right, Kil: they did basically give the answers away. |

I always loved that about you man. You have a degree in Mathematics, and are bad with numbers. |

Yeah, just about all of the identification questions could be solved by the same simple "eliminate the absurd" process that works with most multiple-guess tests.
Now if you were to snip the outline of a country out of the map, present it, and ask "what country is this?" I would be totally lost (except for some obvious ones like Italy, USA, Canada, England, Japan...).
A quiz like that would probably produce results too depressing to publish. |

quote: Did anyone notice, once the questions involved looking at the map, all you had to have was a general idea of what part of the world the country in question was to get the answer right? There were no other country's to choose from once you narrowed the answer to an area. Makes those percentages all that much more depressing, I think.

Good Heavens, Kil
You're expecting students to use deductive logic as you demonstrated in your post??? Much less someone teach them logical concepts. PAAH! The high school proficiency exams being rammed down US students throats now-a-days absolutely guarentee that students will come away with factoids and not concepts.
Does anybody remember the word "essay"? Or has that fallen completely out of the English language?
