Here's what happened when I tried to post links to opposing views on the "Rapture Ready" discussion board:

quote:
To: the Whisper

quote:(THIS IS FROM Whisper's post)
Then I started finding more radical sites (like GodHatesFags.com). I did not like the hateful way they practise Christianity but I could not argue with their scripture. So I tried to read the Bible from their perspective to see where they were wrong. But I do not think they are wrong, and this has troubled me tremendously. I was raised to believe iun a loving God who cares deeply for all humanity. Now I am not so sure. The cruelty God has inflicted on humanity thrroughout history pains me deeply. I still believe in God but I do not think He is a just and good god. I just can not approve of what I know in my heart is evil behaviour. I do not know if I can be called a Christian anymore, even though I still believe that Jesus Christ is our saviour. I do not know what I am. Is that wierd or what?

Anyway, I stopped going to my church. No one there would understand my change in feelings towards God. At least I can talk about it here.
(END OF Whisper's post, on to the start of my post)

I hear you. I've had a similar experience (along with just reading things through, etc). I have no idea if you'd be interested, but there are some sites you may (or may not) be interested in:

<Link removed by Moderator>
with stories and Links to similar sites.

It's nice to know that even if you're reconsidering your faith (whatever it is), you're not alone. It can be VERY trying emotionally, but it seems that everyone DOES get through it. See:
<Link removed by Moderator>

For the Christian point of view: Christian Answers Net

Note that he left in that link. You would have thought that he'd at least appreciate that I gave a link to THEIR side of things, but he doesn't care. They only ACCEPT links to their side of things!

This is the reply I got from that moderator:

quote:
the_ignored,

This is a Christian site, and the Apologetics forum. This is not the "here is the door out of Christianity" forum. Please don't post links to anti-Christian sites in these forums, thanks.

John

see: http://www.rr-bb.com/showthread.php?s=5a75492eacb3e56415d5cc49be7d0ea0&threadid=55762&pagenumber=7

Well, if anyone ever complains about the "censorship" or "lack of academic freedom" that xtians go through, I can use this to hit them over the head with. After all, on THIS board no-one's ever given me hell for posting to xtian sites, have they?

In his next post he talks to the guy I did, saying that God hates all sorts of other sinners. True, but God specifically orders the KILLING of homesexuals, not most of the other stuff. The moderator really should have posted those remarks to their xtian community in general, instead of someone whose "faith" is being "tested" by those people. It's obvious he didn't care about God's opinion about gays until someone threatened to leave the "faith".

I'd like to reply to him saying that, but now it seems that I can't post anymore on that board.

hehe ... I thought about removing your link to the "Rapture Ready" board just to be funny.... We will never remove links to "anti-Skeptic" sites (in fact, many of us seem to enjoy getting riled up by them).

Rapture Ready is a trip. I visit once in a while, but don't post. What's the point? I'd just get kicked out, anyway for presenting fact and requesting (politely) proofs.

It says Read Only after your name. So they really took away your posting access too?!

That's pretty amazing. People who obviously have the answers all worked out don't really have any time for someone with opposite views. Interesting.

Here's Becky's reply:
quote:
Oh please. This is End Times Chat on a PRE-TRIB BOARD.

Have you not looked at the other forums here?

Give-it-up.

The very next post is also hers:
quote:
I don't have time to baby sit someone who cannot follow our easy rules.

JesusServant, if you wish to apologise you may contact us. Until then you are off the board.

Somehow, though, "JesusServant" is STILL able to post?? Anyway, he says:
quote:
I've done nothing wrong. Nothing to "give up".
and in his next post,
quote:
Figures.

Please note that this guy is a xtian, not an atheist, apparently, yet they STILL go after him. Judge for yourself. Are they justified in this case or not? What about Becky's attitude?

Looks to me like dear Becky has an attitude problem, along with an extra portion of ego.

I could see nothing out of line with JesusServent's posts.

Hmm. Might start turning him into an agnostic, ya think?

I admit to having read several of the Left Behind books because I thought of them as "end of the world" fiction and I have admitted to a weakness for bad horror and sci-fi fiction but it has become obvious that they are not interested in writing a story with a conclusion but selling as many books as they can and getting as much profit as possible so they will never end this series untill they have wrung every penny our of them they can.

It seems that the guy was posting in an "wrong forum" for his topic. Here's the question then: I hope that we'd treat someone who made that mistake here a little better.(heh! see below!) A question would be: How obvious was it to him that he was posting in the wrong area? Are our/your forums well-enough defined that no-one's ever made that mistake here? (I should have had that in the last post, my bad).

As for how they treat him:
Well, here they go again, beating up on "JesusServant", asking him questions etc. when he CANT POST ANYMORE ON THEIR BOARD!! If you're going to ask somebody something, you'd better damned well let them have the ability to RESPOND!! I hope nobody here does that, though from what I've seen, no-one's ever been blocked, so it hasn't.

Anyway, here's the link:

JesusServant, Why were you so hostile? I think Becky did a pretty good job explaining that the purpose of this board is to discuss Pre-Trib related issues. (Have you even checked out Raptureready.com?) We gladly welcome people of all beliefs, but we keep those discussions confined to the appropriate forum, so that the purpose of this messageboard can be preserved. Our membership consists of post-tribbers, mid-tribbers, and even athiests and those of other religions... but they understand our basic rules and abide by them.

I've never understood why people come in swinging like that, and then don't comprehend our simple rules or our friendly requests to follow them.

I wouldn't go to a Post-Trib board and then act offended when they politely asked me to confine my pre-trib beliefs to an appropriate forum! Sheesh.

People amaze me sometimes.

/Medic ends rant

Huh. It seemed to me that Becky was more hostile, a little childish, and a lot less "polite", but that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

"come in swinging"? The hell?! JesusServant seemed polite to me.

I thought the point of message boards of that type is for the specific reason of debating different beliefs, not confining several people with the same belief to the same message board. What does that produce besides a board full of people reciting their versions of the same beliefs. Terrible for conversation

It seems that I'm not the only one who feels this way:
quote:
I understand your first post to DrLao. Ignorance was a poor choice of words. So we see Doc explaining his meaning and changing it. He then responds to my post about why he changed it and he gets banned. I see fellow Christians using the rolling eye symbol, being completly rude to other people just because they don't believe like we do. It is alright if a Christian is rude I guess because we have the Truth, but if the slightest infraction occurs to a non-believer they are banned. I can understand warning a person when they are out of line, but it seems that if you are a nonbeliever you might as well not bother to come here. The Christians may disagree with the mods but who will speak out, if we speak against a decision from the mods we are banned because we haven't the right to speak what we feel is the truth. I will most likely be banned as well for speaking my mind about this. I try to be courteous and respectful to everyone and I don't mean this even to be disrespectful, but truth is truth and I can't sit by and watch when this continues to happen. It is wrong. I can't debate with someone without the fear that I might inadvertantly cause them to be banned.

I understand that this is a privately owned site and that we adhere to certain rules and behavior but when personality conflicts become the reason for someone to be banned we are talking more than rules.

Is Rapture Ready a place where we show compassion and kindness to those who only believe the way we do?

I am sorry, I love Becky and Dad4Jesus, You are fellow Christians but I feel this was just wrong and can't just sit by and not say it. I have been on here a long time and I have never tried to make trouble, I have always apologised when I have offended and always used a gentle response when in doubt. I hope that you will take that into account when reading this post.

This is by a xtian no less! See, it shows that not all of them are bad. Just the ones in charge, I guess!

His sign-off signature is:

Have you ever noticed how many different directions skeptics attack the Bible from? They attack it from as many directions as they can: contradictions in the bible, the absurdity of the Genesis account, the absurdity of miracles, the illogic of 'belief in God', the problem of evil and on and on. Thankfully these days the skeptics publish a lot of information electronically. If all their literary diarrhea was printed on paper I fear there wouldn't be a tree left standing on the planet.

Finally, some justice!

from Whisper:

Hello all. Someone sent me the folowing links:

http://vanallens.com/exchristian/fartil.htm

They give a perspective that is something like the spiritual struggle I have experienced. The difference is that I still believe, even though I do not want to anymore. Maybe some things just take time. RWB#1, you may find them interesting and helpful.

By the way, Janet, I looked up Gnostics but I do not think that is quite what I am. Thank you for the suggestion, tho.

Looks like he finally got the links after all! It's nice to see that censorship doesn't always win. Note that this time, they never censored the links! Maybe because the guy who did it to me (Werner) hasn't been seen on the board a while.

Hi everyone, you know, all this rediculous censorship from those christian radicals on those sites is truly just more reason not to be christian.

Im so tired of religious intolerance, ignorant people using some Myth to justify hatred and killing.

I wish a hacker would get ahold of their site and waste there moronic discussion.
The true definition of ignorance is refusing knowledge...refusing to learn.
And its apparent that Christianity promotes ignorance, cause I am yet to see mainstream christianity make an effort to listen to anyone or anything that might be different to their own interpretations.

sigh...no difference between them and al qaeda if you ask me...distorted theories and hatred.

To all things clergic, I am allergic.

I have been to many Christian chat rooms. This may be off the line of forums, but it is to the point. In most rooms there are ops watching for problem behavior. I don't mind that, as I have been to rooms not opped and the profanity, antagonism, and rauciousness can really get out of hand. Your only relief is to mute a particular person. However, while calmly and coherently discussing certain subjects deemed offensive to the op, I have been kicked out of the room without a single word/reason given. Usually it has to do with "debating" over a subject. Which mean any topic not agreed on by all. Wow, that could be anything. It may be helpful to note that that some places have rooms for debate. There is an unreasonable fear that some who believe themselves to be Christian have about arguing or any negative conversation. It is a doctrine some are taught. The fear of seeing someone hurt in their faith, however, within their room or forum is very real. There are scriptures relating to this Luke 17:1-2. When you have no faith you consider it a waste of time and energy for anyone who does. However, when you attempt to destroy the faith of some weak soul, you are treading on dangerous ground. You may not believe that, but why take a chance. Be content with your own unbelief, skepticism, etc., but when you actively seek out a weak soul to attempt to drive out their faith in Christ, you cross into territory you ought not to venture in. Keep your rantings confined to the more mature who come to you and you'll be on safer ground.
