I was watching Crossfire today and I saw something very interesting. Apparently there is a book called The Bible Code. Written by journalist Michael Drosnin, the book is based on the work of Eliyahu Rips. They really didn't go into great detail about the codes except for the fact the every 5th letter in the original Hebrew text predicts an historical event. For example the death of JFK dates of Desert Storm, and I believe the assassination of Israeli P.M. Ragbin (not sure of spelling).
Is anyone familiar with such a code or the works of Rips? I believe they sited Rips as being a renown code breaker, something to that affect.

Wow! The Hebrew text says "In 1963, John F. Kennedy will die?" I am impressed! He must've been really important for the writers to cleverly insert this surreptitiously into the bible. I guess god must've popped down and made a big deal about it, but told them to hide it in code. But wait that means god knew that was going to happen, that means predestination, damn there goes our supposed free will =(

The code works in the bible and only in books with words and letters in them!!!!!!!!!!
Similar "warnings & predictions" have been found in Moby Dick and War & Peace. I'm sure every other book would produce similar results if you look hard enough.

There are a great many so called, Bible codes, dating way back to,I dunno, probably the day after the OT was completed. This is simply more paranormal nonsense, but many people still buy into it. Thus, like the quatrains of Nostradamus, which are pretty much gibberish and can be used to predict anything, the codes are still around. They've often been used to predict the Armegeddon and end of the world. And havn't gotten it right yet (keep tryin' fellas! We're all right behind ya  ).
It is interesting to note that all of the predictions came to pass before the code readers made them. Amazing!

I just thought of something completely relevant regarding prophecies. If something already happened (lets use JFK's assassination as an example) and then someone goes and looks through the Bible to find it "hidden" in there, is that really then a prophecy. Whoever found this "prophecy" already had the knowledge that JFK had been killed, so he knew what to look for in order to find a combination of letters that "predicted" this event.
But seriously, think about it, it already happened so it isn't really predicting anything.

What I noticed was the way he kept saying that these events were predicteed before they happened. He said this several times because he thinks it's so important. I could believe it if something was actually predicted. It's pretty easy to pick out a pattern that says what you need it to after the fact. Using a code beforehand and reporting it would be a real achievment. Doing it later is a simple, cheap trick.
It was also cute the way he was able to dig deep into his bag of tricks and produce one scientist of any renown that appreciates this. Now of there were 3 or 4 scientists in teh whole world i might be impressed. Instead I am just impressred that he found any at all. And someone that should know better.
