There where respected sources debunking it on mainstream media? Where? All the mainstream media coverage I have seen were pseudoscientific claims, ignorance, attention grabbing and religious dogama. On both sides of the issue. Respected sources where at best quoted in out of context snippets to make it seem like there actually was a story. |

I think this is one time that the US national media has presented a story like this with a measure of skepticism. However, it never should have gotten this much attention to begin with. Maybe this crap somehow supports the agenda of the corporate conglomerate media ownership. |

Last night on CNN, Connie Chung was taking the leader of the Raelians to task about how the alledged clone was not going to be allowed to be tested and the beliefs of the Raelians to expose how nutball this cult was. Her questions continually jackhammered him about credibility and lack of proof for his claim. |

Yes there were credible sources "debunking" the claim though in most cases it was more a simlple profession of skepticism. But as you noted, wasn't much to be heard from them.
Dr. Robert Lanza of Advanced Cell Technologies pointed out their lack of scientific literature and apparently, experience on the subject when the news first came out. He got a small blurb in a long story about it that was playing up the "controversy" of the claim more than anything.
Rudolf Jaenischm of MIT pointed out that they would be highly irresponsible and unethical if they try it despite all the problems with cloning humans. He got a couple small refs here and there.
There's a few other examples. But the majority as you have likely seen merely say the claim "is being met with skepticism by the scientific community" and then go on to whatever tangent of the story they have decided will be their angle to work.
So far I've see humor making light of the cults alien beliefs, journalists going with the moral & ethical angles.
Media outlets sensationalizing the current presidential administrations stance on cloning. Etc etc.
But no one, until the last couple days thanks to their refusal to allow testing, has seriously gone after the simple truth and nothing more.
But yes that's my point. There isn't a story here, just media sensationalism of a hoax.
Damn, I missed the Chung interview. Though after her pet psychic interview, I am surprised to see her interested in getting the truth either;)

That quote is from the article. That is exactly the kind of harm that people like these could do. If the good President were so stupid and wreckless as to pass legislation against all cloning that sends tons of medical research out the window. What are you supposed to tell some little girl when her liver can't be cloned to act as her replacement liver and a doner can't be found.
I knew this was a hoax from the very beginning of the announcements. If it weren't then they would have come out prepared with all the proof anyone could ever think to ask for, but they didn't. They never had and don't have any proof.
On a lighter note.... could you imagine if it had been that @ss ugly woman that had been cloned. It would have surely then lived a life in a closed lab where no one could ever make blatant fun of its appearance. |

Worse, there would be an immediate international ban on cloning ;) |
