I THINK MANKIND HAS STOPPED EVOLVING BECAUSE OF SOME PRIMITIVE URGES THAT WE CAN NOT SEEM TO GET RID OF. MY 3 FAVORITE ONES TO HARP ON ARE ANTHROPOCENTRISM, SUPERSTITION AND TRIBALISM. TRIBALISM, WHILE NO LONGER NEEDED FOR SERVIVAL IS CLUNG TO WITH A VENGENCE. IT IS THE CAUSE OF WAR, RACISM, NATIONALISM, ETHNIC CLEANSING, RELIGION, AND TEAM SPORTS TO NAME A FEW EVILS. HUMANS LIKE TO CATEGORIZE. THERE IS A STRONG URGE TO GROUP PEOPLE INTO US OR THEM. THIS I THINK MUST BE GUARDED AGAINST BECAUSE ONCE DONE YOU BECOME SUBSERVIENT TO THE GROUP AND ITS OPINIONS, YOU LET YOUR CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS COAST AND YOU MAKE PREJUDICIAL JUDGEMENTS. BEING A TRIBE MEMBER IS ALSO DANGEROUS BECAUSE THEY ARE SUBJECT TO MANIPULATION. SEE: SUBJECT TITLE ABOVE AND LET'S KILL SOME BABY'S POSTING

<sarcasm> WOW, YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD THAT TIME. Your right, absolutely everyone in the world is racist and wants to go to war to kill all of those other evil heathens who aren't the same color and religion. And of course, anyone who belongs to any kind of group does very little thinking and all of them are easily influenced. </sarcasm>
I'm not a racist, and I am quite strongly opposed to war with Iraq. Contrary to your apparent belief I do have critical thinking skills, and I am not easily influenced just because I belong to some kind of group, or "tribe" as you are comparing it to.
By the way, your caps lock key is evidently on. |

OK, enough... I have a hard time reading your posts. The problem with using all caps is it's very annoying to read. It is a rude read. You must be aware of that or you wouldn't call yourself THE SHOUTER and proceed to write in caps. You may have some interesting things to say, but many of us here can't get passed your obnoxious style.
If you want to continue to post on these boards, loose the cap lock or I will personally start deleting or editing your posts. And frankly, since I don't have time to edit them, they will probably be deleted.

EACH OF THE POSTINGS ABOVE ARE GOOD EXAMPLES OF WHAT I WAS SAYING. LEGALLEE, IF I CAN CALL YOU BY YOUR FIRST NAME, I WAS NOT ACCUSSING YOU OF ANYTHING. YOU MUST THINK I'M ONE OF THEM. KIL, YOU DON'T LIKE THE WAY I LOOK AND YOU ARE GOING TO GET RID OF ME. OH MY, I'M GLAD THIS ISN'T REALITY. NUBIWAN ARE YOU TRYING TO CATEGORIZE ME?

What is wrong with you Humans? We all know we are not perfect but this statement makes me wonder also what you think you are and if you think you have come up with an original statement. I am sure there is a point in all that shouting somewhere and I really am not one to just bash people whose opinion I don't agree with but I just couldn't see where you were going with this and what point you hoped to make. Try again and maybe a dialog can be started. |

As a general rule, I don't read posts in all caps. I figure anyone who can't be bothered to do a simple thing like learn how to turn off the caps lock doesn't have anything relevant to say. |

I'm with you Es, I'd love to comment on this subject but the Caps are difficult to read. Kil, go for it! |

I have no idea how you look. I don't care how you look. Your posting style is rude. I don't have to tolerate that. And, I am not going to. |

So you come here with a deliberately rude attitude and style and then when we dare to ask you to be polite you give us the "Oh how typical" crap. You are just trying to bait us and somehow have deluded yourself into thinking you're being clever while doing it. Here's a news flash for you: You're not particularly clever. Just annoying. You have nothing interesting to say and just make an ass out of yourself while doing it. Your parents must be very proud.

Anthropocentrism? Most wholeheartedly agree.
Tribalism? Disagree. While tribalism, a very effective social-survival mechanism (--as well as being a mechanism for eradication of unsatisfactory/unsuitable societies--), the bad things usually associated with tribalism can be softened or even eliminated---usually by inter-tribal trade (if the trading is done by tribal members; typically, trade does not work for this if the traders are extra-tribal professionals). That is: Inter-tribal trade makes tribalism a good thing rather than a bad thing.
Superstition? No, no, no. Wholeheartedly disagree. Once again, trading superstitions among tribes leads to the false superstitions (--a mark on the skin at birth is a sure sign of life-long honesty--) being universally diminished and the true superstitions (--when dark clouds appear to the south in the summer, a thunder-storm will follow within the hour--) being turned into universally-accepted fact.
In fact, although I would once have suspected that your premise was true (--that we humans are a blight/plague on the face of Earth--), lately I have begun to suspect that we are evolving (--for the better ).

Superstition, by definition, is always irrational. If you're saying that some of the same drives that bring us to superstition sometimes bring us to science, then maybe I can begin to agree. |

Much, much worse.
I'm willing to suggest that most of science began as superstition.

Okay. I gather that what you're saying is that we are evolving and have less superstition than we did thanks to good science. I would say that we still have superstition, and superstition does not necessarily lead to science.
