What brought that on? this. Original posting here.
Another example of this guy's lunacy here. |

Ashcroft has to go. For him to even consider such measures is enough to remove him from office. If this becomes law it would be as if the Soviet Union had conquered us all. Hell, we'd wish they had.

McCarthyism may soon be making a comeback. The irony is they (Ashcroft, Bush, et al) become like those they fear the most. Un-American... |

Sorry, Kil, but I think these guys sincerely believe deep down that a 'true American' is just like they are, where all 'proud Americans' stand firmly in the middle of their, (Ashcroft, Bush, et al), political spectrum. The only problem is that their political spectrum falls somewhere between Ann Coulter and Pat Robertson.

Definitely totalitarian menace! This Patriot Act II proves it. |

I think we are saying the same thing. The moment you put limits on what it means to be a 'true American' with full constitutional protections, you are essentially throwing away what I believe is at the heart of the american ideal.
The "Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003" and McCarthyism are of the same spirit. The same kind of thinking. The result will be that we will fear our government far more than we fear what we are supposedly being protected from....
