I've always considered myself to be a political Centrist, until quite recently. It seems that the new voices of the media, and the ideology of our gov't are not only labeling me a far left liberal, but making me glad to run in that direction. If you disagree with these folks on just one issue, you're labeled liberal. They even call each other liberal if they disagree. So, according to Limbaugh, Buchannon, Hannity, Coulter, and the rest, if any of the following apply, then you just may be a liberal if you;

>Do NOT support a complete and total ban of ALL abortions.
>Say ANYTHING positive about the Clinton administration.
>Support ANY form of gun control, no matter how trivial.
>Show ANY dissatisfaction with the present Administration, Court, or Legislature, (unless you call any of them too liberal)
>Belong to any faith other than Christianity, (unless you qualify yourself as a “conservative Jew” only).
>Support the scientific use of any fetal tissue, despite of how it was acquired.
>Think that cloning may prove to be beneficial to human kind.
>Do NOT support the school voucher program in its present form, or any other form.
>Believe that teachers and other public employees should NOT lead school prayer.
>Do NOT believe that the United States of America is Christian nation, founded on Old and New Testament teachings.
>Do NOT believe that the federal gov't should give money to charities that will use it to proselytize.
>Do NOT believe that Constitutional guarantees apply ONLY when your Attorney General says they do.
>Think that a few Palestinians have the RIGHT to be pissed off.
>Believe that it is okay for the state and federal governments to set SOME land aside for reasons of public use and conservation.
>Think that mining, ranching and drilling companies should clean up their own messes after they finish destroying publicly owned lands.
>Feel that private businesses SHOULD pay a competitive rate for public land use.
>Believe that huge tax breaks for the wealthiest 10% of the population are NOT going to make our economic problems go away.
>Think that the combination of reducing taxes and increasing federal spending is NOT the cure for a sluggish economy.
>Think that it's okay to be gay, (or bi, or poly, or whatever the hell you are).
>Believe that you shouldn't have to recite “under God” if you don't want to.
>Think that “In God We Trust” is NOT our national motto.
>Believe that labor unions are over regulated, and unfairly discriminated against by election laws.
>Feel that corporations may be under regulated and given preferential treatment by gov't.
>Think that parents do NOT have the right to hit their children.
>Believe that if churches support political action groups or politicians they lose their tax exempt status.
>Think that ALL campaign contributions must be made public, and limit ALL soft money.
>Believe that being a Christian ideologue is NOT a qualification for a federal appellate court judge.
>Think that federal institutions such as, Social Security, Medi-care, and the Department of Education should not be parceled out to private business or disbanded completely.
>Feel that even working class people have a right to affordable health care.
>Believe that corporations do NOT have the right to pollute land or waterways, no matter who claims ownership of that land or waterway.
>Feel that a single parent or same sex parents are just as moral as Ward and June Cleaver.
>Believe that schools should NOT teach Creationism as science.
>Are an Atheist, Agnostic, Humanist or Unitarian.
>Think that the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment, or just not worth the risk.
>Believe that a completely unregulated and unchecked free market is a prescription for disaster.
>Feel that Affirmative Action wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
>Feel that there is nothing immoral about the hu

It's amazing to me that people like Rush Limbaugh and Dr. Laura can even find a job.... oh...well...I guess this is the same country that has George Bush as a president and holds Ronald Reagan up as an idol, isn't it?

What would you be if you believe that
  • neither Gore nor Bush won the election;
  • that the election is, under the Constitution, still undecided;
  • and that Speaker Hassart is the legal President pro tempore ?

You know, and maybe it's because I'm getting old, but I can't remember the exact moment when identifying myself as a liberal became such a bad thing that I couldn't declare it in mixed company....

I don't mind being labeled a liberal even though I consider myself a moderate in many instances. Really, the terms liberalism and conservatism have lost their meaning. Who subscribes whole heartedly to only one agenda that they border on a neurosis? Rush Limbaugh is a fine example but his career is based more on mocking people he doesn't like. His mouth is always open and sound is coming out but he never seems to say anything. He's a walking special interest group unto himself. This applies to Oprah Winfrey in that so many people hang on her evey word as ironclad law. I find her self righteous, arrogant and just flat out uneducated in her thinking. Much like myself I, however, am willing to admit and recognize my own shortcomings. As for Dr. Phil...who cares what some second rate HACK says. The only reason he even has a job is because of Oprah. At least Jerry Springer recognizes he's just a trash show host. He takes pride in showing America the dark corners of itself. We all have watched it and were amused and entertained while being disgusted at the same time. We all feel dirty sometimes when we see truth. It can be an ugly, hideous thing unless you look at it objectively. We're all just primates with a higher sense of morality. Or so we think. We're nothing special.

I need to stop drinking so much beer but I have a week until I start my new job.

I've had about enough of me.

I could not agree more with the Oprah sentiment. People seem to completely buy into the myth she has created about herself. The myth being that she is in fact benevolent and interested in others' well-being!

Her supporters tend to forget that she is an entertainer, not mother Terresa! Consequently, her ratings, and with them her profits, sky-rocket everytime she sheds a tear on camera, or even better, one (or more) of her audience members do! As for buying people cars etc., she clearly is not giving away money in sufficuently large quantities to prevent her from being the wealthiest woman in entertainment!

If one wants to see REAL heroes and humanitarians, go check out http://www.msf.org/, they don't have their own production company or book club though: I guess they are just too busy saving lives...
