Other than being a logistical nighmare, the Bush administration wants to be able to monitor the Internet . "The National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace" is proposed to start next year....

A few people on this forum have been particularly scathing of the current administration and Bush himself, so watch out. You would think that in the current climate that someone logging onto a site called "The Skeptic Friends Network" would scare the bejesus outta the government. God forbid that some of its citizens may think for themselves, or actually question their foreign and civil liberty policies!!!!!

Notty, our Attourney General has expressed disdain for several of our Constitutional Bill of Rights (based on your own Magna Carta) and that they do not apply in the case that they are inconvienient. Ashcroft and the rest of the Hitler Youth have been granted overbearing power to declare citizens an "enemy combatant" and suspend their Sixth amendment rights to due process, access to legal counsel, and writ of habeus corpus. The innocent dissenters have much to fear from this tyrant.

The man said in a congressional hearing that anyone who opposes his draconian steps "helps terrorism". He continually falls back to a false dilemma of "for us or against us" to deal with dissent instead of dealing with the issues presented.

Oh, come on. They'll never come for you and me. (0: Notty is right.

Our local group finally found someone who would put up a Stop the War - Support our Troops billboard for the month of March. They called us today and said they were taking it down. Said they'd give us a partial refund.

If I was you, I'd push for a full refund or continued use of the sign. They broke the contract, not you.

Guess they're saying that it was a mistake and they'll fix it. The printing company is in Colorado, so it may be a while. Somebody jumped to conclusions.

you know what? Ashcroft can go stick his head in a toilet and P. Bush probably doesn't even know enough English to understand what I say about him.

Sorry guys, I was indulging in a little throw-away irony. Britain is now infested with street-cameras of one type or another making our public places much easier to monitor by the state. My little throw-away comment is a paraphrase of the argument you will hear about why "good citizens" should not be concerned about this.

I do follow developments in the US quite closely, and as you point out, your basic freedoms and civil liberties look as if they are being severely curtailed. If this war goes wrong, or leads (as I suspect it will) to more terorism on US soil, look for more of the same.

This may be closer than you think.
In the German state of North-Rhine and Westfahlia, internet providers have been forced to ban various sites, mainly including neo-nazi propaganda, but also extending to sites such as rotten.com

Damn, Rip! I don't think I could survive without my morning dose of Daily Rotton.

I agree, that it can happen here. I have no doubt that heavy monitoring is already happening, which is why I post nothing that I wouldn't say in public for all to hear.

Fuck Bush and all of his facist works, that lying, thieving, cowardly, treasonous, little bastard!

Edited to add the link for Rotton: http://www.dailyrotten.com/

I was trying to say they are banning sites just because they don't like 'em.

But then again, I guess you knew that ;)

Treasonous, hum?
Well, Filthy, if they come for you, I'll be right behind you. Will you hold my hand as they lead us away?

I have no idea if you guys are joking or not.
The government monitors the internet? Well, duh! What did you think, that it was private?
You do know that cell phones aren't private either don't you?
