,.. out to be.
"U.N. diplomats said sanctions should not be lifted until the world body certifies that Iraq is free of weapons of mass destruction, while Washington showed no sign it would involve the world body in the hunt for the banned weapons."
This should be interesting to watch. The US has argued before the nation and the UN, of the certainty of the existance for Iraqi WMD's. Now to get the UN sanctions, that we once argued for, lifted, we will have to certify the WMD's are no more. Will bet Dubya won't blink an eye and proceed to do just that. It's what he do best...

In my opinion, this only strengthens the case of those that claim the Bush administration believes itself to be above international law. The UN sanctions were set in place to insure that Iraq refrain from the production and use of WMD's, and that she keep her armies within her own borders. I don't recall where the actual person in charge made a difference.
According to part of the premisses the Bush administration used to invade Iraq, and create a 'regime change', ie; continued manufacture of WMD's, the administration is obligated to allow the UN inspectors back in as soon as it is reasonably possible. Just because Mr. Bush heads up the curent regime, doesn't make UN resolutions less applicable to the nation of Iraq.
Of course, this all seems very petty, but there are more than a few pissed off nations waiting for the chance to take the US to task. |
