The United Nations is an organization which expects the United States to consult Angola on matters of foreign policy, and which has nominated Libya an expert on the protection of human rights. It is rapidly becoming as meaningless as the old League of Nations. If those who tout "international law" have nothing better to point to than this pack of useless bureaucrats, then I hope the United States continues to wipe it's feet on the concept.

Wrong again.
The UN, for all it's faults, is the only venue for discussion we have in a rapidly shrinking world. Without the exchange of thoughts among nations, all will be the losers. We are idiots for ignoring it.
Instead of bitching about the UN, why not think of ways to improve it. It'd be a good topic to hash over, here. |

The US is bound by the Constitution to its treaties. The US uses the facade of international law to serve its desires when it wants to, and ignores them when it wants to. |

The United States Congress is an organization which expects California to consult Rhode Island on matters of interstate policy. It looked like a failure back in 1861 but it's worked out pretty well.
When the U.N. doesn't do what the U.S. wants, the solution is to get down and start politicking to work out a compromise. Whining when you don't get your own way is just pathetic.

Actually, the thing to do would be to work towards some kind of democratic institution instead of one that the most powerful can use to their benefit. How to do that, I dunno. In the meantime, the U.S. could pretend as though they care about some level of democracy and law. |

This is a pretty senseless topic to even respond to with the beginning statement being nothing but rhetoric drivel. Yeah, go and complain when someone you don't agree with fills a certain post in a government but that's the way it is with all such organizations/governments. Someone will always be in a post you would rather they weren't.
Actually there is a form of international law but it's the USA that decided to pull out of it at the last minute. Why do you think that would be? Maybe because the USA is guilty of some of the worst crimes and has the most to lose? And you bitch that there is no international law? Yeah, I'd do the same knowing that I was in the country that is quite possibly the worst offender.
