THIS IS IT!!! TUESDAY, JULY 17th

"The Day That Counts"
Please join in with ALL AMERICANS as we make our hearts and minds known!
We are making PHONE CALLS and sending WRITTEN LETTERS, FAXES to our
representatives in U.S. Congress - - all together on this one special day - -
to OPPOSE the Bush Administration's commitment to "faith-based initiatives"
and the U.S. House of Representative's intended bill (H.R. 7 - "The Community
Solutions Act"), designed to fund that initiative.

BELOW are links to your U.S. Representatives in Congress and your U.S. Senators,
along with templates of letters you can send and links to helpful websites that
can inform you about this important endeavor.

THIS IS THE DAY and RIGHT NOW IS THE TIME to contact these people!

Whether you call yourself an atheist, an agnostic, a secularist, a humanist,
a freethinker, a non-theist, a non-believer, or are just non-religious in general. . .
PLEASE JOIN THE 27 MILLION OTHER AMERICANS WHO IDENTIFY WITH YOU!
Regardless of the slight degrees of differences in the temper and terminology
of these non-religious labels, we can surely all agree that. . .
FEDERAL FUNDING OF ANY RELIGIOUS PROGRAM IS UNCONSITUTIONAL!

It's time to STAND UP and BE HEARD
with ONE LOUD VOICE of UNITY!

€ IF YOU AGREE that our founding fathers formed this great nation and its
historic Constitution on principles of "SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE";
€ IF YOU THINK that our United States Government therefore has no business
spending YOUR TAX DOLLARS on subsidizing RELIGIOUS-BASED PROGRAMS;
€ IF YOU WANT to CORRECT the current administration's misguided initiatives
toward establishing this unconstitutional, illegal and dangerous precedence;

YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF AS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN
to make your conscience known and your voice heard!

PLEASE DO IT TODAY. . .
PLEASE DO IT NOW!

THANK YOU for your kind consideration.

============================================================

Here's How YOU Can Help. . .

* Send a fax or "snail mail" to the President, your Congressional Representative
and U.S. Senator, or make a personal phone call. We suggest
sending your letters so that they arrive on or near July 17.
* Officials receive millions of e-mail messages every year.
Unfortunately, e-mail does not carry the "weight" or impact
which personal letters -- especially when handwritten -- do.
Faxes are given more consideration than e-mail, but less than
regular postal communications.
* Be sure to include your name, return address and phone number
in your letter. Sign your letter at the bottom.
* Be polite and concise. Tell your elected representative that you
oppose public funding of faith-based social programs. We
suggest that your letter not exceed more than one or two pages
in length, at the maximum.
* Ask your Representative or Senator to respond, and give his or
her position on this important constitutional and legislative issue.

(SEE "SAMPLE LETTER", BELOW)

PRESIDENT George W. Bush:

Web Site: www.whitehouse.gov
Phone: (202) 456-1414
Fax: (202) 456-2461
Capital Address: 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., NW; Washington, DC 20500

Sample Letter:

Dear Rep. or Dear Sen. _____________________

I am concerned about H.R. 7, the "Community Solutions Act," and other
legislation that would increase the scope of "charitable choice" and provide
federal money for the operation of faith-based social programs.

This legislation would impose a "Religion Tax" on the American people,
including millions of Americans who are Atheists, Freethinkers, Humanists
or nonbelievers. It compels us to subsidize programs that are operated by
religious organizations. Despite claims that this money would, in theory,
pay only for the "secular" component of social outreaches, these entitlement
programs invite abuse by groups that would also proselytize clients, preach
religion, and use religion as a litmus test in hiring employees. There are no
provisions for government oversight and accountability.

No American should be compelled to subsidize faith-based groups or projects,
for any reason.

I urge you to vote against H.R. 7 and any other legislation that uses my tax
money to subsidize churches and other houses of worship. The decision to
contribute to a religious group or faith-based program should be a personal
one, not a government program.

I look forward to hearing your views on this important matter.

Thank you,

(your name)______________________

YES! I did call my congressman, Howard Berman, early this morning. What good it will do? His staff has not been very polite in the past, and his views on other issues are not very intelligent. Well at least they know I'm a proud Atheist.

Good for you Snake, I got some faxes off today. Writing letters is good also. Can be mailed out this week.
Didn't you feel good about making the call? That's one good point. Another is they have your view. Like you say, he is YOUR congressman.
And have you forgotten the last election and the Florida debacle?
Keep up the good work!

Perhaps another discussion could be started about the group vs. the individual when it comes to who is listened to by their elected officals BUT yeah take away the frustration that probably nothing will be done, I feel better then had I done nothing.
Sometimes not being able to spell IS a drawback, therefore I don't write letters often. And remind me to tell you a funny story about how E-mail to a senator doesn't work, ha ha. Barbara Boxer and/or Diane Finestein are idiots.
Boy, that felt good too.
ps. Randy, I like that little animation thing you have going on your SFN profile.

Thanks, thought the soggy cat in the bathwater was needing a change! I try to change pics on occasion, just for the hoot of it.
More should do it.

Oh! Sorry I missed that. I only looked at your page that one time. And you are right about changing stuff. I change my computers colors and all that as the seasons change. LOL, of course in California that's only about once or 2wice a year.
Right now I have the baseball screen saver, have they played the world serious yet, I want to change it soon?
Randy, you're not an artist are you?
