The secret is, that there IS no glass!

And the correct phrase is "I couldn't care less"!!! This is one of my anally retentive pet peeves .

Well since I'm a MAJOR Pessimist, my answer to this question is usually "on the floor in a zillion broken shards in a puddle of water"

Was the glass carefully measured as to whether it, indeed, was half full or half empty? Perhaps there was more in one portion than the other, making the statement somewhat meaningless as to *half* (where there is no *half* present).

As one learned student replied when presented the
same test, "All I see is a glass of water."

I voted 'what glass' but I'd say, it's 1/2 full if you are still thristy but 1/2 empty if you don't want anymore to drink.
OR, vice versa.
Take your pick!
The glass is many things to many people.

How exact is the measurement? The time elapsed since the measurement would also have a bearing on the correct answer, as evaporation/sublimation or expansion/contraction would conceivably alter the level. Another factor to consider would be the material contained in the glass, and wether it exists in a liquid or solid form.

As a control experiment, I recently poured some amber liquid from a bottle on my bookshelf into a glass. Seeing that I had exceeded the halfway point by a considerable margin, I imbibed some in order to adjust the level. This had the effect of lowering it too much, but after repeated adjustments I feel that I now have it to where the stuff is just bloody lovely, and ... um... Man! Who's that fox over there? she dint look that gret whenn shee comeinnbut...ooops! whoa nelly ... braaaaaak.

Put the glass in a box along with a cat and it will probably be both.

The answer to this is: almost completely empty.

Proof: calculate the volume of the glass. Now count up all the subatomic particles in that glass and calculate their combined volume. The ratio of the former to the later will be large indeed. Therefore, the glass is empty no matter how full you make it, unless you fill it with neutronium.

Maybe someone should appoint a blue ribbon commission to study the matter.

Can I be on the group that investigates it?

Of course I would only want to if there isn't much work and I get paid a shitload for it.
