McCartney bows out a winner

Jason McCartney, a prominent Australian Rules footballer was seriously injured in the Bali bombings last year. After receiving burns to 50% of his body whilst saving the lives of two girls that were in the Sari Club the night of the bombing, he made a comeback to top grade football last night. Our brand of football is a physical one, much like your NFL, and he played the game with protective stockings over his injuries. After the game he retired from football.

Although we honour and cherish our soldiers who die and are injured in the heat of battle, a story like this provides some inspiration after much heartache due to an attack, though not as devastating as 9/11, still hit close to home here in Oz where 88 Australians died. They were killed - and many more injured - whilst being guilty of nothing more than having a good time when on holiday.

Although some of you may not like sport a hell of a lot, a day at the footy (or any pastime) can help an individuals and a collective nation heal after a devastating attack. Especially one that targets our people and our way of life. If sport, music, arts or whatever relaxes us are affected, then the terrorists have really won.

I just wanted to post this as a “thumbs up” to a brave and committed man whose actions have spoken louder than any words can.

To cap the night off he set up the winning goal that enabled his team to win a close contest.

Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

Wow. Quite an individual. From what I've read, ARF is more demanding than American Football. (Comically, the British league calls itself BARFL.)

A story that certainly gives on pause to think. Thanks for sharing it with all of us.
