From the James Randi Educational Foundation home page you can find a link to their mission statement...

About the Foundation...

The James Randi Educational Foundation is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1996. Its aim is to promote critical thinking by reaching out to the public and media with reliable information about paranormal and supernatural ideas so widespread in our society today.
On that page you'll find a pretty thorough description of the purpose of JREF. The foundation publishes a newsletter, and participates in a variety of research projects investigating supposed supernatural occurrences. I'm pretty sure they still provide a lecture service among many things they do to help encourage critical thinking and scientific inquiry into claims of paranormal phenomena.

For example, if you have an organization of kids who are prone to accepting claims of the paranormal without properly questioning the evidence, and maybe these kids are in search of guidance, the Randi Foundation can arrange, for a modest fee, to provide an excellent lecture. The lecture points out common flaws in logic and provides examples of errors in examining evidence that people often encounter when they begin to explore things like ESP, psionics, ghosts, telekinesis, and other supernatural phenomena.

It depends on the situation, as all things do with me. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
Well, Randi always makes certain that people are ready before he proceeds with the testing. He tries to make sure that you are 100% comfortable before going forward. Of course, that rarely prevents people from complaining after they fail the test about one factor or another.
