My guess is if the U.S. Supreme Court rules against him, Chief Justice Roy Moses, I mean Moore, will really wig-out, as if he hasn't already. There'll be a showdown at the monument; he'll have to be carted off with his "graven image". It'll be bye-bye judge. |

A friend of mine thinks the 10 condiments should be left up because they reflect the laws of the USA. I must vigourusly disagree; I think that leaving the 10 condiments up in a courthouse is a very anti-american thing to do.
Here is a portion of the 10 condiments.

This is 5 of the big 10. The first 3 and the last one indicate that you must be must be Jewish (or Christian). Kind of sounds like this is denying the freedom of religion. In this country if you want to make an Idol to facilitate your devil worship that is protected by the constitution. Number 4 is the proud American tradition of keeping up with the Jones. According the big 10 if you put in a pool because your neighbor does - you is goin to Hell. Just a quick thought - Does the worship of Jesus violate commandment #1? Moslems refer to Christians as polytheists because of this. It also seems that almost all Christians violate the Sabbath (it actually says the 7 day is holy - Saturday). In Buddhisum they have a sort of 10 condiments - actually there are 7 precepts, I think, and our laws encompass 6 of the seven. So I guess we actually follow the buddhist tradition a little better than the judeo-christian tradition.
I am saying the 10 condiments because of an old farside comic where mosses is apparently playing cards with a bunch of guys in the basement and he is coming down from the kitchen with a tray of the 10 condiments for some sandwiches they are eating. That just cracked me up for some reason.

I think it's also important to note that there are no Federal laws against failing to honor one's parents, or against adultery. Killing in self-defense and when acting as a soldier are codified as acceptable within our laws, so "thou shalt not kill" as a blanket rule is out, too.
Only two of the ten, the commandments against theft and bearing false witness (perjury) are also prohibited by the laws of this land. Given that these have been fairly clear-cut morality issues for far longer than any book of the Bible has been around, it seems silly to claim that they are Christian ideas.
Therefore, to me, those last two are in our laws due to coincidence only, and the number of laws we have which are actually based upon the Ten Commandments is precisely zero. |

Brings up an interesting question; this graffito-defaced boulder is, sooner or later, going to go. Then, what is Judge Roy going to do with the fucker (apart from the expected and physically impossible suggestion)?
I mean, that is one big, heavy chunk of rock. Can't put it in his living room; it'll fall through the floor. Can't put it on his lawn; it'll shoot down property values and piss off the neighbors. Might donate it to a church, but most already have one, albeit not on such a grand and imbecilic scale. What's to be done?
I know! Crate it up, gift wrap it, then ship it to John Ashcroft. He'd love it and it might take his mind off the Great, Aluminum Justice Department Jahoobi for a while (I'm all but certain he sneaks behind his $8,000 curtain for a quick grope, now and then).
Or, he can put it to practical use as rip-rap along a quay wall somewhere.

What about Moore's callous disregard for the Constitution and Bill of Rights?
Can someone please explain to me why religious folks aren't among those of us adamantly supporting the separation of church and state? Can't they see that it's this very separation that ensures their freedom to worship as they choose?
Christians are incredibly free in America. They can build enormous churches. They can knock on your door and talk about Their Lord and Savior. They can pray in public and private. They can put tacky plastic Jesus statues on their lawn. Yet that's not enough for some of them; some simply MUST have their religion reflected in government. If I can indulge in a bit of judgmentalism: how childish Moore and his ilk are. *Insert BARF icon*
This is a hot-button issue for me and as such has annoyed me to the point where I'm not enjoying my morning cup of hazlenut coffee. Harumph.

I just have to admire Judge Moore defending his right to keep the commandment's on the wall by citing the Declaration Of Independence, calling the phrase "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights" an "organic law." An organic law? I can only guess that what he means by organic law is an idea that is so obvious (to him) that it does not require a law to cover it. So, anything he believes, even without statute or legal precedent, is the law. Now that's balls!
Unfortunately, the guy is chief justice of the supreme court in Alabama and doesn't seem to understand that the DOI is not a governing document...
