It's been 2 years since the tragedy of September 11th, 2001, two long years and a lot has happened over that time.
It's been two years since I turned in the television at 11:30pm Australian time and saw the unbelievable sight of one of the World Trade Centre towers in flames. Hit by a plane the broadcast said. “Bloody Hell” I thought as I wondered down the hall to wake my better half to tell her what had happened. She told me to piss off and let her sleep.
It's been two years since I saw the second plane hit the world trade centre, the thought of “Bloody Hell” turned to “Holy Shit, what is going on here?” I again woke my fiance and rang my Mum and Dad. They were from Germany and lived through the Second World War, the episode bought back memories of the destruction of their home cities of Berlin and Hamburg. Not much has changed. The human race has not learned a thing. Violence begets violence.
It's been two years since my heart went out for George W. Bush and the American people, especially those in New York. My heart still goes out for the American People, two years of lies and using a tragedy for personal reasons has done nothing but make me shudder when I think of the reaction of the United States President and his inner circle. I just don't trust the current Untiled States administration, I don't trust the House of Commons and I don't trust my own government. It's been two years and I've been angry, I'm tired of it now. Who cares what I and the rest of the world think any more.
The world rallied in support when Afghanistan was targeted, I agreed with the actions of the United States and many other nations. Osama Bin Laden must be caught and held responsible for this tragedy. It's been two long years and he still taunts us from a distance.
Iraq came on the agenda; it had no links to 9/11, but apparently was a hotbed of terrorism and a danger to us all. Saddam had to go. He was a clear and present danger. In the past two years Iraq has REALLY become a hotbed of terrorism. Why go to America when the Americans come to you.
The U.N. has become irrelevant we were told. We must invade Iraq we were told. Invasion is necessary to make the world a safe place. Pre-emptive war is the only way. Strike them before they strike us. How did the “axis of evil” react? Let's reconstitute our nuclear programs to protect us from this policy of pre-emption.
It's been two years and our elected leaders have told us countless lies. The majority of people are so used to them now we don't care any more or we choose to believe them. The opinion polls tell us that Saddam might as well have flown the planes into the twin towers himself.
It's been two years since we first heard the term “Weapons of Mass Destruction” Its been two years since we started looking for them, it's been two years and we still have not found them.
It's been two fucking long years. Lest we forget the 3,000 people who died in such a tragedy. I hope, I sincerely hope our species learns from our mistakes of the past two years. Of that though, I am sceptical.
The world is a very different place and I fear that the terrorists are winning. What scares me more is I feel that those in power like it that way.

Mistakes are a part of being human. Appreciate your mistakes for what they are: precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it's a fatal mistake, which, at least, others can learn from.

It was 6am here in Los Angeles and we got a call from our relatives in Thailand. We were asleep, my son answered the phone and thought it was a joke when he heard them tell us to turn on the TV. To this day it's still a frightening thing to think about. You get up go to work or start your day as usual, and suddenly you are on the phone telling a loved one good bye....for the last time. That could happen anytime, any place, still. (Don't mean only from terrorissim. Things happen all the time, we never know our fate from one moment to the next.)

As well you shouldn't. I've never trusted any governments, even long before two years ago.

There will be other Bin Ladens even after he's gone, you do realize that? Although, yes he should answer to his deeds.

Well.......actually it's been 2,000 years and nothing's changed!

Is the world really different? It's just progressed....to this, that you talk about today.
But power, money, dominance.....has that really changed? I sight the work of Shakespeare as an example but there are pleanty of other historical references through out time. Do you think those in charge in the middle east learned anything from Spain? Mankind has a LONG way to go.

Any yet... Yesterday I was told on the news, that George W. Bush appeared before the U.N, asking U.N. to take over in Iraq. He appeared, not to apologize for saying U.N. is irrelevant, or to apologize for side stepping U.N. But to tell them to clean up the mess he caused, because it's getting expensive, and his popularity is quickly fading away with each american killed in Iraq.
How ironic.
And sad at the same time.
I share gezzam's sentiment.
I was at work, about three o'clock when I heard of it. I didn't hear at first that is was an air-liner, but just a plane. I started to think about when I played with MS Flight Simulator, and tried to fly a Piper (or was it Cessna?) in eights around WTC. I thought someone was trying to impress his girlfriend, or winning a bet, flying between them and missed. Do any of you remember the German kid that landed a small plane (Cessna) on Red Square in central Moscow 1987? That kind of stunt. Then I heard what kind of plane it was... and I started thinking "is this for real? A professional pilot can't be that bad, it must be technical malfunction of some sort." When I heard on the radio that the other tower was hit, there was no question about the reason anymore, it could only be a coordinated act of terror and destruction.
I can understand a wounded child lashing out at everyone and anyone in anger, but a nation must be held to a higher standard. The "with us or against us" speech just made me laugh in disbelief.
