Just in case any of you've had a hard day at work, or got yelled at by the boss, or something, maybe reading this note from the rich () will help you to feel better about yourself and your role in society.
Then again, maybe not.

Excuse me but there must be some mistake. That note is not from a rich person but from the government. The polititions who take our money so we can't do better in life. The government who takes our money so it can give it to people to demean them with handouts so they will never have the power to do better. You can't possibly mean rich people like Bill Gates who donate to charity and employ people so they can make a living. It's the government who wants to keep people down by restricting everything we do and taking hard earned money and giving it to others who don't work for it. If someone can't or doesn't try to make their life better it's not a rich person who stops them.....it's the government. Or at the very least, their own bad choices. |

Snake, it isn't that Bill Gates isn't a nice guy. It's the system. Bill Gates didn't create the system. |

Now THAT was funny.
I'm glad someone finally pointed out that few of us will win the lottery. Few of us get rich, period--in fact, I read somewhere (please don't ask me where; I don't remember) that the working and middle classes are far more likely to become poor than rich. But the fantasy of becoming rich keeps us stuck on the treadmill.
It's easier to blame 'the government', immigrants, welfare recipients (now there's a nefarious group!), and anyone else that gets a fraction of our tax dollars. If we blame the rich, whatever will we do on the off-chance we become rich?

Yes. Most who are rich either inherited it or were born on third base. |

I guess I am in the minority, but I have a hard time hating my goverment and the poiticians. We tend to rant and rave about the goverment we have but I can't really think of any country that is better than this one. So, when we rant against the goverment what are we comparing it too? An ideal? Can we have a perfect goverment? That would depend - your 'perfect' goverment would not be my 'perfect' goverment. We can't agree on specifics but in general this is an amazingly great place to live because of (not in spite of) our goverment. I think that I am a realist and all I can say is; what do you expect. I actually think this kind of thinking is responsible for the high divorce rate. People say, "Gee, my marriage isn't perfect so I want out". You can't have a perfect marriage if you aren't perfect. This is not TV or a movie, this is the real deal, there is no nirvanna that is reached after 20 mins of car chases and witty lines (with 10 mins of commericals).
I will never have more money than I know what to do with. I will have down days when I am blue. My wife will occasionally get on my nerves (and I will get on hers). My kids will sometimes drive me nuts. But that is only 10% of my life, the other 90% is great. Hey, I'm happy with that; what the hell do you expect?
I'm pretty sure I am going to have to watch my friends and relatives slowly die off, unless that is, I die first. Does that suck? No, not at all, because that is the way it is and always has been. If you think that scenario sucks, then I say, "it sucks compared to what"? A fantasy? Does it suck that I can't flap my arms fast enough to fly?
I am continuously amazed at how freaking lucky I am. I think that it was George Carlin who said about white people singing the blues, "what do you have to be blue about... did Old Navy run out of khaki?". If you want to sing the blues knock yourself out, but if you look at the poorest nations NOBODY should sing the blues in this country. I'm not rich, I'm not powerful, I'm not all that smart, and I'm not all that good looking but I'm satisfied and happy with the realities of my life.
On the bright side, all those amazingly rich people will all have tragedy touch their lives. They will all experience the pain of death. And money REALLY does not buy happiness. Money only buys stuff. |
If I knew then what I know now then I would know more now than I know. |

I don't recall anyone mentioning hate. Why do you see hate where there is none? Why is wanting to improve the world equate to hate?
What we are talking about is a system that is quite predictable. Corporations own the media, so the tendency is for the media to become a moutpiece for certain elements. It becomes easier to regurgitate Defense Department handouts and press releases from corporations rather than to actually investigate and distribute news. The same is true for other things. Wealthy corporations send lobbyists to Washington and fund think tanks. Since the media and the think tanks are largely run by the wealthy, it becomes easier to create legislation which tends to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. We're not talking about Bill Gates being evil, we're talking about the realities of the system.
That doesn't entirely explain criminals like George Bush and Bill Clinton et al that seem to have no concern for the rule of law or human life, but that's another discussion. |
